I had an incident today that could have turned into a disaster, if not for the Shielding Hand of God. I also had something wonderful happen afterwards.

While I walk Jewel,I pray. I did the same with Sheba. It usually is the most quiet time of the day for me, no phone except for my flip phone in my pocket in case of emergency, no doorbell, etc. As I walk down the alleys to get to the 2 bike trails at either end of my street, I do keep an eye out for trouble. Sheba and I were attacked several times over the years by loose dogs.
So, we are on the west bike trail, getting ready to turn down the alley to get to the east trail.A large brown Pit, which probably weighed a good 70-75 pounds, comes running out of the alley and attacked Jewel. I beat the Pit off from Jewel, and the Pit attacked me.Several people came running to help.I continued to beat this Pit.Jewel wiggled out of her harness, and tried to help me, biting at the Pit's back legs. Jewel, an 11 pound pipsqueek, has a heart of a lion! She got the Pit away from me, and the Pit turned to her again. Jewel took off and ran. Two kids showed up and the older one grabbed their Pit. One kid said the Pit has bit him too, before. I yelled for the other kid to grab Jewel. I put her harness back on her, and called the police and animal control, and then called my husband.
Except for scraped knees from the pavement, as I was wrestling Jewel away from the Pit,I am OK. I did not get bit.Even though the Pit had Jewel in his mouth, she doesn't have a scratch on her!!!
After this was all over, I still had shopping to do. I do all the shopping for a month's supply when the social security check comes in, and just have to get milk and bread the rest of the month.It all didn't hit me until I was at the 2nd store on my list.I burst into tears, thanking God for protecting us.
So, I then go to the 3rd store on my list. As I put the cart back into the corral, I saw a $20 bill laying on the ground a few feet away. An older man picked it up before I could, but that was OK.I laughed and told him he beat me to it, and to have a Blessed Day.I had found a lot of change today, so I was OK with it, and glad for him.
I finally get home after store number 4.The mail came, and I was dreading the Urgent Care bill for the doctor and x-rays from when my hip went out. It arrived. I had applied for assistance for the bill from the facility, as I do not have insurance to cover it, and my income is low.Usually they knock a chunk of it off, and I pay the rest. Every bit helps. I am in deep debt with the dental/medical/vet bills. I pay all of my bills, and have never slouched on any bill my whole life. I opened the envelope and read the letter. BALANCE ZERO !!! PRAISE GOD !!!
