There has been a request by the new Muslim Congresswoman to be allowed to wear her hijab in our government buildings, including when she is sitting as Congresswoman.

A decree was issued in 1837 that "every member shall remain uncovered during the sessions of the House" and that has been followed until 2018, more than 180 years.

The House, following a proposal by Nancy Pelosi, is considering this request.

The hijab is not only a "religious" symbol, but more a political symbol of Islam.
