When sorrows like sea billows roll
Henry is up at Children's Hospital again, not because anything has changed significantly, but precisely because it hasn't. Pretty much everything we're seeing is consistent with the final effects of a brain tumor (sleepiness, nausea, intolerance of anything in his gut, some limb stiffness on one side), but we've had this nagging uncertainty wondering if we've missed something big. Maybe this doubt we're having is common with other parents going through this, and perhaps it's not. The reality is that we've had to make decisions, such as discontinuing food because Henry's digestive system seems unable to handle even water, and we'll have to live with these decisions long after he's gone. So this short stay at Children's Hospital is a means to confirm that we're taking all the right steps as we approach the end.
Henry continues to be comfortable, thanks to carefully dosed medication, and still sleeps nearly constantly. He seems less and less awake during those short times his eyes are open, but he's still pretty stable. We really don't have any idea what sort of timeline Henry's on. Pray for some measure of contentment for us as we still approach these final days/weeks. Lisa and I really would like it to be well with our souls.
