I know much of what is being built and planned for the saints and half expect that I will be martyred at some point. I didn't say I was happy about that, but the search for truth has be undertaken without regard to what you want or what feels good.

I was taken out of a fairly prestigious career in business and engineering (BS Engr, MBA) and put into a lower job sometimes doing handyman work for people. I am not ever allowed to return to the position I was in. It was good for my EGO to be trampled on. I help others now. For example a ministry asked me to step in to help a company where the leader was in spiritual counseling to reintegrate his multiple personalities. I ran the operations of the company and grew the business, but it beat on my old man daily. Which is a good thing. God knew my old man needed to be weakened.

Notice that at the beginning of the David and Goliath, the Word mentions that Jesse was "stricken". In other words, David's old man was stricken which is what allows the new man to thrive and it was the spiritual man that Defeated Goliath. David and Goliath happened as it said and the way it happened and is worded reveals the plan for the defeat of the old man in all of us. I can explain that:

David (new spiritual man who does not rely on own strength) vs Goliath (type of large menacing fleshly old nature man) in the valley of decision between the mountain (kingdom) of God and the mountain of the philistines (world). Here the mind of Christ is pitted against the mind of the flesh. Goliath threatens David that he will kill him and give his body to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth. David speaks the return judgment, that he will kill Goliath (put to death the deeds of the flesh) and cut off his head (notice that David does not hold a sword – whose sword will he use? Goliath’s own sword) and that he will give his body to be the birds of the air and beasts of the earth.

Notice that Saul, in type the old nature who tries to follow God has told David, “you can’t go up against this Philistine” This is just like the 10 spies who came back to Moses when scouting the promised land in Numbers 13:31 and said that the people who occupied the promised land (who all lived after the flesh) cannot be overthrown. In type, this is very much like what we hear in churches today that we’ll always be just broken sinners, that we cannot go up against our old man/nature. But, in type, David’s father Jesse (as in David’s “old man”) was stricken (weak). David was successful in coming against his old man because he knew his old man was weak.

David reaches into a brook/stream (running water is God’s word in type as in Ephesians 5:26 & Hebrews 5:14) and pulls out 5 smooth stones (as in he has had his senses washed by the Word to discern good and evil). And David has a record of God’s deliverance over the Lion and the Bear (Medes-Persians) (which are end-times beast kingdoms in type). He only uses 1 stone to kill Goliath. I believe that stone represents the tongue. He declared the victory over the mind of the flesh in faith and heaven backed him up. David loosed judgment on the old man and Heaven agreed (Mt 10:32-33).

After David hit Goliath between the eyes (assault against the mind of the flesh), he runs up and uses Goliaths own sword to cut off Goliath’s head (mind of the flesh, put to death the deeds of the flesh – Rom 8:7,13). Then David takes Goliath’s head to Jerusalem (as in take every thought captive in obedience to Christ (2 Cor 10:5) – this is the same Jerusalem that Adam left as he fell in Parable of Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-35)).
