I lived near airbases. If it sounds like one jet but is LONG and LOUD, it is multiples taking off one after the other. Probably after burn takeoffs if the jet is fully loaded with ordinance. I remember watching evenings when Oceana NAS would scramble jet after jet after jet. This was during the first Gulf War. |

Pretty loud. Quoting: twortle Interesting, is that in Florida? How can you tell if it's a Nato training base? Because it is called an ENJJPT Program (Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training) And it's in Texas. Your papers appear to be in order "It's all fun and games...until we have to cover it up" |

Shasta (OP) User ID: 70885965 United States 11/24/2015 11:16 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I heard faint rumbling this morning for about 15 minutes. I was still in bed and it was very silent except for the distant rumbling. I'm in central Texas. Quoting: awakesouls Interesting, maybe the same noise, usually when I hear it it's faint, but this time very loud, loud enough to make us go outside and look. |

Usually they are short and only like a few seconds or so. I am 99.9% sure you heard a series of hard take offs. They were all lined up and 1 will take off, then just as the one jet lifts from the runway, 1 more throttles up and tales off. Again, just as that jet lifts off the runway, another one throttles up. The military does practice putting as many jets in the air as possible every so often. It results in a LONG drawn out rumble that sounds just like one jet but over a long period and is noticeably louder. |

I love sky watching aircraft. I saw a bunch of Chinooks the other day for the first time, I did a thread on that too, guess you could call me a sky-tard LOL. |

As a kid, I was on the air base often....mostly swimming pool. But we did like to watch the jets when they were practicing. During the onset of the 1st Gulf War, I saw my first B2 bomber landing. They fly so quiet it seems like I was watching a hologram flying. Got to sit in an F-117 as well. |

Not common, I saw/heard it twice over a period of 8 years. When I saw it, they were fully loaded with weapons and fuel. It was just after sunset and the afterburn take off was awesome. In fact, if I remember correctly, that was the squadron that loaded up the JFK off shore when they shipped off to war. The jets never stay on ship when in port. they all land on base. And all fly out to the ship when off shore. |

Not sure if I've seen a B2, probably not, sounds pretty cool. Sitting in an F-117 sounds like fun, but I don't think I could handle the G-force if i took off, LOL. I hope your dad made it through the war okay and all. |

The war was scary when Scuds were hitting Israel with the chemical weapon threat. I remember that well. Last Edited by -Adam- on 11/24/2015 11:50 AM |

Never know that about not staying on ships when on shore, I guess they fly them in for safety reasons. |
