If war starts next week, will it change your vote? | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 83616 ![]() 10/14/2006 12:33 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It looks like naval forces will be in place in the Persian Gulf as early as a week from today. Quoting: Green ManGiven the impending Republican losses at the polls in November, the administration may be looking at launching the Iran war BEFORE the election in hopes of improving the election results for Republicans. My questions to the GLP community (who reside in the US) are: If war in Iran starts before the election are you more or less likely to vote, and if you vote are you more or less likely to vote Republican? In other words, would starting the war two weeks early actually help or harm Republican chances in the election. This assumes, of course, that the election takes place, and that the actual results are not Dibold-ed away. better the devil u know than the one u dont know! |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 83616I'm not quite sure how to read your response, AC83616. It sounds like you are planning to vote Republican. Many people of course, will. I am wondering if war would CHANGE your vote. In my own case, I was planning to vote anyway, and war would not change my vote, so NO CHANGE for me. If you were planning to vote anyway, and to vote Republican, war would be a NO CHANGE for you. From the administration's point of view, the purpose of launching the war in the week before the election would be to CHANGE votes. So, my question is : would it CHANGE yours? I'll vote democrat or independent (independent prefered). I don't like the democratic platform at all.........but in times like these...if they can move to put an end to the madness of "King George" a democrat might get my vote...... Or even a republican if they are outspoken against the crimes of the bush administration and are trying to put a stop to them |

I've been a republican for my entire life until 2000. Being Republican used to stand for smaller government, conservation and fiscal responsibility. This republican administration and congress is the exact opposite. Doesn't congress have to authorize war through a declaration of war in order for the president to have "war powers"? In my book, the war on terror including actions in Afghanistan and Iraq are only conflicts, not wars, and the president although he is flexing his "war powers" does not constitutionally have those powers since there has not been a declaration of war. |

Green Man (OP) User ID: 108824 ![]() 10/14/2006 01:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If war starts next week, we better be worrying about a lot more than the vote. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 134146I'm trying to come to grips with the "two weeks until war, or four weeks" question. Not to change the subject, but fuel shortages are likely when the war comes. If you heat your home with propane or fuel oil, it would be a good idea to get your tanks filled now. This is also probably the cheapest you will see fuel this winter. Look at the supplies you have on hand and make sure you have some spare food and water. Truck deliveries may well be disrupted to some extent.
