I saw this coming. Holy crap.

[link to bigstory.ap.org]

'The government is deliberating whether to propose
The Selective Service Act requires eligible men to register for the draft when they turn 18 or face fines. Registrants can be called up for compulsory service until they are 26 years old, though none have been drafted in decades.

Carter has previously said he supports a review of the draft based on the growing role women play in the military.'

I'm too old too. But my sisters would be eligible.

I wonder though what kind of restrictions they'd put on women. We may see younger women getting pregnant just to avoid the draft.

By the time they are drafting 40 year olds, you'd be happy to be in the military for the meal and shelter, because by that point, shit has gotten fucked up.

Wow. just wow.

Seriously, ladies what gives with the attitude of to good to sign a draft card to be eligible?

We've been asking our young men to do this for many years. Many, many years.

As a female veteran, I find the too good to strap on combat boots thing really sort of elitist. Perhaps it would fix a few of the issues we have as a society and do away with the give me give me thing if all young adults were required to serve at least 2 years from between 18 and 20.

If you think as a woman you are too damn special to go to war involuntarily, then our sons, fathers, and brothers are too.

you can thank the feminists who killed the era of women being able to be home makers, wives, and mothers, the same people who have waged war on family units. Now is way to damn late to be getting pissed off about it. The time to have gotten pissed was when those women were burning bras to go to work.

They probably send all female brigades and units out front to distract and get mowed down by machine fire and deplete the enemies ammunition while the male brigades go in for the kill.

Many people- not just women - oppose war, oppose killing of any kind. It's a conscience issue- not a gender issue. Many people do not want men (voluntarily or forced) to use stolen money (taxes) to go off to war to put $$ in the pockets of the elite.

Yep I know! And I don't want any humans in my squad. I want ill tempered machines that cannot compute feelings and discomforts. Something on the level of an ED209. Hopefully they can come up with a solution on tethered power supplies before the grand battle.

"What shall we do? Many people think that the best way to escape war is to dwell upon its horrors and to imprint them vividly upon the minds of the younger generation. They flaunt the grisly photograph before their eyes. They fill their ears with tales of carnage. They dilate upon the ineptitude of generals and admirals. They denounce the crime as insensate folly of human strife. Now, all this teaching ought to be very useful in preventing us from attacking or invading any other country, if anyone outside a madhouse wished to do so, but how would it help us if we were attacked or invaded ourselves that is the question we have to ask.

Would the invaders consent to hear Lord Beaverbrook's exposition, or listen to the impassioned appeals of Mr. Lloyd George? Would they agree to meet that famous South African, General Smuts, and have their inferiority complex removed in friendly, reasonable debate? I doubt it. I have borne responsibility for the safety of this country in grievous times. I gravely doubt it." Winston Churchill
