Incompatibilism is the view that a deterministic universe is completely at odds with the notion that persons have a free will; that there is a dichotomy between determinism and free will where philosophers must choose one or the other.

I'm wondering if like teen pregnancy, if teen binge-drinking is on the decline.

It's a tough, harsh world they are attempting to get a toe-hold in. Very little room for error.

Maybe the hard partying days of America's youth, is at an end.

Probably for the better.

Use of Alcohol by Underage Youth

The 2013 National YRBS found that underage drinking rates are decreasing:

Lifetime use of alcohol by underage youth was 66.2%, which has fallen significantly over the past few decades (i.e., from 81.6% in 1991)

Current use of alcohol among underage youth was 34.9%, which has also fallen since 1991 (50.8%)
Note: A new report from SAMHSA21 offers even more promising numbers: In 2013, current use of alcohol among those ages 12–20 was 22.7%, down from 28.8% in 2002.

Dot-com bubble

The dot-com bubble (also known as the dot-com boom, the tech bubble, and the Internet bubble) was a historic economic bubble and period of excessive speculation that occurred roughly from 1995 to 2000, a period of extreme growth in the usage and adaptation of the Internet.

The Nasdaq Composite stock market index, which included many Internet-based companies, peaked in value on March 10, 2000 before crashing. The burst of the bubble, known as the dot-com crash, lasted from March 11, 2000 to October 9, 2002

Fertility rates in Greece, that is, the average number of children Greek women have, dipped from 1.5 to about 1.3 during its eight-year economic crisis (2008-2016), the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said in its World Economic Outlook, issued on Wednesday.

The economic crisis has left its mark on the global economy, as growth rates and debt remain high 10 years after the financial crisis of 2008, while fertility rates have worsened in many countries, the Fund notes.

Driving a nice car and taking trips when chained to 500K of debt at 28, only offers the 'illusion of wealth'.

You all need to stop fooling yourselves.

FB facilitated the 'Keeping up with the Jones' philosophy.

It's all debt here.

We are at tipping point.

 Quoting: Seer777

A Foolish Take: Here's how much debt the average U.S. household owes

The average American household carries $137,063 in debt, according to the Federal Reserve's latest numbers.

Yet the U.S. Census Bureau reports that the median household income was just $59,039 last year, suggesting that many Americans are living beyond their means.

Here's how much debt the average U.S. household owes in credit cards, auto loans, student loans, and mortgages.

[link to www.usatoday.com (secure)]

This Is How Much Debt the Average American Has Now—at Every Age

Total household debt—a category that includes mortgages, student loans, and car loans along with credit card and other debt—dipped in the wake of the Great Recession, but it has since steadily rebounded in the years since. Overall, Americans’ debt hit a new high of $13 trillion last year, surpassing the previous record set in 2008 by $280 billion, according to the New York Fed.

Under 35: $67,400
35–44: $133,100
45–54: $134,600
55–64: $108,300
65–74: $66,000
75 and up: $34,500

[link to time.com]

The average U.S. household debt continues to rise

So, what do the numbers look like? According to recent data compiled by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, total credit card balances amounted to $784 billion in the second quarter of 2017 — a $20 billion increase from the previous quarter.

Indeed, the cost of living has been rising — but wages haven’t kept up. As of 2014, median income plummeted by 13 percent from 2004 levels while expenditures increased by nearly 14 percent.

50 million American households can’t even afford basic living expenses

Some 50.8 million households or 43% of households can’t afford a basic monthly budget for housing, food, transportation, child care, health care and a monthly smartphone bill, according to an analysis of U.S. government data released this month by the United Way Alice Project, a nonprofit based in Cedar Knolls, N.J. that aims to highlight the number of people who live in poverty.

The project uses standardized measurements to calculate the “bare bones” household budget in each county in each state. It maintains that the federal poverty level — currently $25,100 for a family of four — doesn’t accurately illustrate the number of people living in poverty because it doesn’t take into account the dramatically different costs of living across the U.S.

Sure, Unemployment Went Down - Because More People Left The Workforce

The number of jobs increased by 164,000 in April. But the number of unemployed dropped by 239,000 between March and April.

That is why the employment-population ratio — the percentage of all people of working age (16 and up, including people who have stopped looking for work) that are employed — dropped from 60.4% to 60.3%. More people disappeared from the labor rolls.

Most preschool fees are comparable to the high prices charged by daycare centers. Depending on where you live and the quality of the preschool, average costs range from $4,460 to $13,158 per year ($372 to $1,100 monthly), according to the National Association of Child Care Resource & Referral Agencies (NACCRRA).

A Look at the Shocking Student Loan Debt Statistics for 2017
It’s 2017 and Americans are more burdened by student loan debt than ever.

You’ve probably heard the statistics: Americans owe over $1.4 trillion in student loan debt, spread out among about 44 million borrowers. That’s about $620 billion more than the total U.S. credit card debt. In fact, the average Class of 2016 graduate has $37,172 in student loan debt, up six percent from last year.

From link..

Fewer and fewer people have savings to weather time between jobs or an emergency expense. A third of the U.S. population has no savings and another third has saved less than $1,000. Two-thirds of American households, by this measure, are desperately scrambling to make ends meet from check to check. Nearly half the American population earns too little to live on comfortably:

One-third of all workers earn less than $12 an hour and 42% earn less than $15. That’s $24,960 and $31,200 a year. Imagine raising a family on such incomes, figuring in the cost of food, rent, childcare, car payments (since a car is often a necessity simply to get to a job in a country with inadequate public transportation), and medical costs.

Even in households that combine income from two wage-earners, it’s rarely enough to live on without anxieties about money.

It takes an average of a little more than $100,000 per year now for a household to be able to live without anxieties about money.

 Quoting: Seer777

Because mainstream and social media have redefined "comfort" living so that no middle income family can keep up without living in debt through credit. They want you to believe $200/mo on your cable package is necessary. That your kids all need iPads and cell phones by the time they're 10. Ect ect. This is ALL to get people in more and more credit debt, and families on anxiety meds.
 Quoting: duFontaine.

Get rid of the cable, cell phones, and $500+ car payments, you can live quite well on the average mean salary of $55k.

Thread: Richest getting richer: Wealth of world’s billionaires surges 20 percent in 2017

A joint report by UBS and PWC showed that world’s billionaires’ wealth enjoyed its greatest-ever increase last year, hitting $8.9 trillion shared among 2,158 individuals.

“The past 30 years have seen far greater wealth creation than the Gilded Age” the report said. “That period bred generations of families in the US and Europe who went on to influence business, banking, politics, philanthropy and the arts for more than 100 years. With wealth set to pass from entrepreneurs to their heirs in the coming years, the 21st century multi-generational families are being created.”

More than 40 of the 179 new billionaires created last year inherited their wealth, the report said. “A major wealth transition has begun. Over the past five years, the sum passed by deceased billionaires to beneficiaries has grown by an average of 17 percent each year, to reach $117 billion in 2017. In that year alone, 44 heirs inherited more than a billion dollars each.”

It said, the world ends January 28, 2012.

Years later I found out that an X flare happened the day before and was one of the reasons aether named it, how he did.

Weird huh?

Millennials say no to kids, population 'replacement level' turns negative

Colony collapse disorder

Colony collapse disorder (CCD) is the phenomenon that occurs when the majority of worker bees in a colony disappear and leave behind a queen, plenty of food and a few nurse bees to care for the remaining immature bees. While such disappearances have occurred throughout the history of apiculture, and were known by various names (disappearing disease, spring dwindle, May disease, autumn collapse, and fall dwindle disease), the syndrome was renamed colony collapse disorder in late 2006 in conjunction with a drastic rise in the number of disappearances of western honey bee (Apis mellifera) colonies in North America.

European beekeepers observed similar phenomena in Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Greece, Italy, Portugal, and Spain, Switzerland and Germany, albeit to a lesser degree, and the Northern Ireland Assembly received reports of a decline greater than 50%

oh
the masters master has replied:

The equation is much more complex than this since *arbitrary* creations will likely do us more harm than good. It's a symbiotic alliance/relationship of the highest order we are describing here, so that the *creation* process cannot succeed as an arbitrary collection of wants and needs.

Of interest to this discussion is Michelangelo's definition of how his own creative process worked. he speaks of *releasing* the form from the marble itself rather than attacking the stone from without - all blunted mind and chisel set completely aside in lieu of that most perfect and sublime emergence. If we want to define *the problem* or *the process* in some way, we must be careful to define it wholistically or it will fail us miserably, leaving only mangled shards where there once existed a timeless masterpiece of expression we would then have some reason to call *divine*.

The first question before us then is: what does the *stone* wish to bring forth? and so, by tard, what is the emergent *god* in *man* today?
It seems painfully clear that the palette has changed over a great span of time and struggle. What is new, that might have been missing before?
We have moved on to a new block of marble whose intent is not quite the same as the last piece or the one before that.

Symbiosis is the great key to the marriage of Macro and Micro Cosms.

Looks like it is from 1402 which has been rotating out of view earth bound CME is not likely, but we are currently experiencing a huge radio absorption over North America I'd hate to be flying right now.

Here's the latest picture brother Sol does look angry.

The CME simulation shows a clean miss of earth, but it is going to smack the crap out of the Stereo A spacecraft.

Update: A Full Halo coronal mass ejection (CME) is seen in the latest Lasco and STREO Ahead COR2 images. Due to the spots location, initial indications appear that it is directed to the west. More data will be needed to determine if a glancing blow will be possible.
