No ad on my laptop, just the tablet.

We carry it around in our pockets. We wear it on our wrists. We devote more than 10.5 hours a day to screen time.

Facebook has conducted experiments on us that show how susceptible we are to mind control. In 2012, the company secretly tampered with the news feeds of nearly 700,000 people, manipulating the ratio of emotionally positive to emotionally negative posts, then monitoring the subsequent activity of those users.

What they found is that emotions can be remotely controlled and are highly contagious on the platform. People who saw more unhappy posts showed more unhappy activity and vice versa. Many questioned the experiment’s legality and ethics, wondering if Facebook had triggered any suicides. Facebook apologized for the way the experiments were conducted and promised to conduct them “differently” in the future, with enhanced review.

People are very easy to control using emotional triggers disguised as positive reinforcement, and the susceptibility to echo chamber in social media, is terrifying.

World of Warcraft utilized this same methodology when when they changed the word 'unrested' to 'normal' and 'normal' to 'rested'.

There's a segment in this episode I can't find. In it, Cartman is hosting a podcast in which he advises who is considered good "friend stock". People with "undesirables" on their list were quickly ostracized by their peers.

As the video states people are already signing up (and i agree with their assessment of those who do). It is easy to see it aiding a dictatorship, however i wonder how it would work in a divided populace (such as US).

Don't think I could bring myself to watch that lol. The first scene was clever, even if it had me internally screaming no chuckle
Don't get me wrong, I generally try to be friendly. But the forced fake-ness has got to be a form of hell.
Any other highlights?

The entire episode is disconcerting in the manner you mention. It very effectively shows what will be the result of those who 'embrace' the system only to later watch as it fails them for a slight misstep or mistake.

In the vid on Exposing the Chinese Dystopia, there is a Chinese man who suffers her same fate after doing or saying something against the Party. Now he is in hiding and is unable to rent a car, get a motel or any basic services.

Honestly, seems like that way with many things, despite their different forms.

Like any tool/idea it's all in the way it's used. Is it human nature to use them in such ways? The same kind of people in positions of power? Meh, chicken/egg with a few other things thrown in.

How's the show to play out, that's the question.

What is especially scary to me is considering this has all been planned and implemented over decades.

The young people of my country will have voting majority coming soon..

The Boomers will think it is prophecy and God's will.

A planned self-fulfilling prophecy for 'believers' yes.

Problem is it will be the kids that pay the real price. All the Boomers will just die off.

the son of a missionary once said

Throughout the 17th century and the 18th century and the 19th century, this continent teemed with manifold projects and magnificent purposes. Above them all and weaving them all together into the most exciting flag of all the world and of all history was the triumphal purpose of freedom.
It is in this spirit that all of us are called, each to his own measure of capacity, and each in the widest horizon of his vision, to create the first great American Century.

I have completely avoided South Park over the years due to some episodes I saw way back, that I did not find clever or humorous and instead..extremely cringy and disgusting.

Season 19 I'm willing to give the show another chance. :)
