Hence, the tomatoes could all be smooshed if opening the door to obe. You ultimately are translator of your own dreaming. Great read. Thanks. Agoraphobia is a type of anxiety disorder that causes extreme fear of specific places, particularly crowded, public, or open spaces. Although mainstream media often portrays people with agoraphobia as never leaving home, this is not always the case. Some people with agoraphobia go into public but stick to familiar places. As with all other anxiety disorders, the fear in agoraphobia is an outsized reaction to any real threat. Therefore, when people stayed in their homes to prevent the spread of COVID-19, this was not a case of mass agoraphobia. Instead, this was a rational and planned response to a real threat. Seer777 (OP) Ride the wings of the mind User ID: 79139322 United States 07/14/2020 04:23 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | How to Tell the Difference Between Agoraphobia and Coronavirus Anxiety “It’s an unusual situation,” Dr. Anand says. While there is certainly overlap between the fear of returning to public places due to the virus and agoraphobia, there are some key differences as well. “The virus can literally be in the air. The fear of getting contaminated, the need to wash hands, those are a part of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).” Agoraphobia, he says, is an anxiety disorder and has more to do with “being in open places or being in situations where you feel helpless, like among large crowds.” It can sometimes be associated with a panic disorder, which fuels periods of intense anxiety lasting half an hour or so. ... “The usual reason for agoraphobia is the anxiety about not being able to be in a safe situation physically in a crowd, that feeling of being out in an open space and thinking that something bad is going to happen to you,” Dr. Anand continues. New anxieties over contracting the coronavirus, though, are more inline with OCD, he says. “You don’t want to go outside because you want to avoid the infection. You don’t want to breathe in the air or touch something that may wind up giving you that virus. With agoraphobia, the fear is that something is going to happen to you immediately but with this, nothing will be immediate because it would be days, even weeks, before you showed symptoms.” But, again, Dr. Anand admits it’s a unique time. “I don’t think people in psychiatry who would make a diagnosis ever thought of this situation. These new virus-related anxieties have qualities of OCD but because they’re also about going out in the open, going outside, it has elements of agoraphobia. It’s difficult to put in a particular category of psychiatric diagnosis. [link to health.clevelandclinic.org (secure)] Difficulties strengthen the Mind as labor does the body... ~Seneca |

Quoting: Seer777 Germ theory of disease The germ theory was proposed by Girolamo Fracastoro in 1546, and expanded upon by Marcus von Plenciz in 1762. Such views were held in disdain, however, and Galen's miasma theory remained dominant among scientists and doctors. The nature of this doctrine prevented them from understanding how diseases actually progressed, with predictable consequences. By the early nineteenth century, smallpox vaccination was commonplace in Europe, though doctors were unaware of how it worked or how to extend the principle to other diseases. Similar treatments had been prevalent in India from just before AD 1000. A transitional period began in the late 1850s with the work of Louis Pasteur. This work was later extended by Robert Koch in the 1880s. By the end of the 1880s the miasma theory was struggling to compete with the germ theory of disease. Eventually, a "golden era" of bacteriology ensued, during which the theory quickly led to the identification of the actual organisms that cause many diseases. Viruses were discovered in the 1890s. The Doctor Who Championed Hand-Washing And Briefly Saved Lives So Semmelweis hypothesized that there were cadaverous particles, little pieces of corpse, that students were getting on their hands from the cadavers they dissected. And when they delivered the babies, these particles would get inside the women who would develop the disease and die. If Semmelweis' hypothesis was correct, getting rid of those cadaverous particles should cut down on the death rate from childbed fever. So he ordered his medical staff to start cleaning their hands and instruments not just with soap but with a chlorine solution. Chlorine, as we know today, is about the best disinfectant there is. Semmelweis didn't know anything about germs. He chose the chlorine because he thought it would be the best way to get rid of any smell left behind by those little bits of corpse. And when he imposed this, the rate of childbed fever fell dramatically. [link to www.npr.org (secure)] Difficulties strengthen the Mind as labor does the body... ~Seneca |

'I Should Be Good At This': Agoraphobic People Are Suffering Through Quarantine With Everyone Else Phoebe isn’t just worried for those coping with the disorder. “You can't keep an entire society inside for weeks on end and expect things to be fine,” she said. While her past confinement was agoraphobia-induced, it's given her insight into what others may be suddenly experiencing because of COVID-19 restrictions. “I've been there,” she said. “I know what that can do to a person.” Dr. Cassiday said she's already noticed what were previously "little twinges" of agoraphobia "firing up" in patients whose symptoms don't rise to the level of a diagnosis. She predicted a surge in cases; among the mental health professionals I spoke to, there wasn’t a consensus on whether quarantine would lead to a spike in the disorder. ... Under normal circumstances, going to the grocery store is terrifying and exhausting but doable. Now, because she’s immunocompromised, Hilfiger hasn’t gone in weeks. She considers New York’s stay-at-home order a much-needed break from the outside world. When I asked whether she was afraid of losing the progress she’s made, her answer surprised me. “I was hoping that I would just blend in with everybody,” she said, laughing. “[We’d] come out of our houses and [I’d] just kind of sneak in and blend in with them again.” After we got off the phone, she texted a photo of her business card from nearly a decade ago, adding “that was me.” Most people stuck inside right now are eager to leave home. But for many who’ve struggled to get through the front door or found visiting a coffee shop excruciatingly stressful, it’s not just a matter of when going outside regularly is allowed again, but if it’ll be possible.
