Following the rise of the thinking machine empire, and the physical and psychological damage it inflicted on the remaining free humans, the very concept of a sentient machine became abhorrent to nearly all humankind. Animosity against seemingly intelligent machines often escalated into outright hysteria, and resulted in widespread hatred of mechanical objects. This hatred lasted through the ages thanks to rigid cultural restrictions, a good example of which was the Orange Catholic Bible's supreme commandment: Thou shalt not make a machine in the likeness of a human mind. Mostly I was upset how it seemed to ruin my parents relationships with people they'd spent a lifetime with. Especially if they were already shaky. Politics was like adding gasoline. I recall watching the movie Sleepers in the 90s and when they all sit down at the bar and he says to a guy who is talking about politics..No politics or religion at the bar. It made perfect sense to me, why such a simple statement was absolutely true. At the same time, talking observationally and objectively about 'politics and religion' is still avoided, while the former is now fair game in internet web bars everywhere. Being murdered by someone you know, is a very real possibility here. One we all live with. Murders Spiked in 2020 in Cities Across the United States The United States experienced its biggest one-year increase on record in homicides in 2020, according to new figures released on Monday by the F.B.I., with some cities hitting record highs. Although major crimes were down overall, there were an additional 4,901 homicides in 2020 compared with the year before, the largest leap since national records started in 1960. The significant rise has roughly coincided with the 18 months of the Covid-19 pandemic. The higher murder rate has continued into 2021, although the pace has slowed as the year has progressed. Overall, the toll of some 21,500 people killed last year is still well below the record set during the violence of the early 1990s. Quoting: Seer777 It's also wise to note how many people truly believe that is THE FUTURE and the only future. [link to youtu.be (secure)] Nobody seems to have thought beyond a decade since Rome... their roads built then are in better condition then a modern highway built last week It is difficult to explain to people what it is like to believe in Armageddon as soon as you can understand any concept. It's all I knew. That end. It caused me endless suffering. I think it would be wise as a species if we could shift our thinking more toward longtermism and less toward catastrophism. By just changing your thinking you can change how one views the potential of the future. I get it though..people reading this are thinking..you don't have a choice! It will happen and you will be left! Enjoy Hell! I choose to believe in something different and show Doomsday cults for their ability to cause mental illness in children, teens and adults, and often inevitable ends. I think all we really need, is a shift of belief.. One more toward longtermism and not constant catastrophe and rebuilding. While that does happen, The Bronze Age Collapse being a stark example, we eventually rebuilt. Imagine where we would be had that not occurred. It is worth saving and the youth deserve a better chance than they're getting. I know how it was for me and I'm as late Gen X you can get without being a Millennial. It's their side I'm on.
