Re: Mad World
Thinking Machines/XD

The term Thinking Machines referred to both actual beings and a general concept, both of which had a profound impact on the development of humanity over the span of many millennia
...

Following the rise of the thinking machine empire, and the physical and psychological damage it inflicted on the remaining free humans, the very concept of a sentient machine became abhorrent to nearly all humankind.

Animosity against seemingly intelligent machines often escalated into outright hysteria, and resulted in widespread hatred of mechanical objects. This hatred lasted through the ages thanks to rigid cultural restrictions, a good example of which was the Orange Catholic Bible's supreme commandment:

Thou shalt not make a machine in the likeness of a human mind.

Feynman", a collection of personal letters from and to her father.

His father, Richard Feynman, worked strategically concentrating on the parallel interconnections of processors within that first Connection Machine.

Subsequent to Thinking Machines he worked on educational software for a California maker.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Linguistics and Philosophy and a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT.

Thanksgiving was always a huge deal in my family. Lots of of aunts, uncles and cousins and kids. Sometimes there were 20+ pies.

I woke this morning at 3:14am and thought that was perfect for pie day.

It was fun in the 80s, 90s, and aughts. Still fun but not like it was.

Both traditions have near disappeared over the last 5 years and with Covid have ceased altogether.

Maybe next year we'll have more semblance of normalcy. One can hope.

Remember a number of years ago when my young sister(probably 6-7) sighed and said it doesn't feel like Christmas anymore. Think a lot of the "magic" of the times vanished for many under the stresses of the world.

Here's hoping for next year...tho I don't know if I'd put money on it heh

I haven't logged into my FB account even once, since Oct 2016. I saw what the awful politics was doing to family members by pitting them against each other and I chose to opt out completely, before it sullied my opinion of people I had spent my life caring about and having fond memories of.

Ever since, it seems like I've totally lost contact with all of my extended family members because I choose not to FB.

Everybody used FB to keep in touch and then fell out of touch because of FB, and then forgot how to get back in touch IRL. Or maybe didn't want to.

I think it goes for everyone as it was a general statement about FB as an entity in facilitating both communication and destruction of relationship through nefarious algorithms and dirty politics.

I just didn't want to see it at all, so I opted out. Completely. Never went back.

Only have a fb account due to one being made for me by friends while backpacking. Was good in that situation...before everyone and their mum started using it and it turned into what it is now. Have not made a post or updated it in years, think the pic of me on there is over a decade old.

It's the drunken arguments at the table, people feeling the net is a shield... and without all the body languages and chemicals from actual interaction...not to mention how divided the vocal ones have become...

Mostly I was upset how it seemed to ruin my parents relationships with people they'd spent a lifetime with. Especially if they were already shaky. Politics was like adding gasoline.

I recall watching the movie Sleepers in the 90s and when they all sit down at the bar and he says to a guy who is talking about politics..No politics or religion at the bar.

It made perfect sense to me, why such a simple statement was absolutely true.

At the same time, talking observationally and objectively about 'politics and religion' is still avoided, while the former is now fair game in internet web bars everywhere.

Americans kill each other all the time over betrayal, both perceived and real.

Being murdered by someone you know, is a very real possibility here. One we all live with.

Murders Spiked in 2020 in Cities Across the United States

The United States experienced its biggest one-year increase on record in homicides in 2020, according to new figures released on Monday by the F.B.I., with some cities hitting record highs.

Although major crimes were down overall, there were an additional 4,901 homicides in 2020 compared with the year before, the largest leap since national records started in 1960. The significant rise has roughly coincided with the 18 months of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The higher murder rate has continued into 2021, although the pace has slowed as the year has progressed.

Overall, the toll of some 21,500 people killed last year is still well below the record set during the violence of the early 1990s.

Homicide is a top cause of maternal death in the United States

Also, becoming pregnant increases the risk of death by homicide: between the ages of 10 and 44 years, women who are pregnant or had their pregnancy end in the past year are killed at a rate 16% higher than are women who are not pregnant.

I think the older generation which has been living with the belief system that they will see the 'end of the world' for the last 6 +decades and attempt to manifest it, is not in the best interests of the youth that has to live here and clean up after they all die.

It's also wise to note how many people truly believe that is THE FUTURE and the only future.

I think it would be wise as a species if we could shift our thinking more toward longtermism and less toward catastrophism.

By just changing your thinking you can change how one views the potential of the future.

I get it though..people reading this are thinking..you don't have a choice! It will happen and you will be left! Enjoy Hell!

One more toward longtermism and not constant catastrophe and rebuilding.

While that does happen, The Bronze Age Collapse being a stark example, we eventually rebuilt. Imagine where we would be had that not occurred.
