Love bombing

Love bombing is an attempt to influence a person by demonstrations of attention and affection. It can be used in different ways and can be used for either a positive or negative purpose.

Members of the Unification Church of the United States (who reportedly coined the expression) use it to convey a genuine expression of friendship, fellowship, interest, or concern.

Critics of cults use the phrase with the implication that the "love" is feigned and that the practice is psychological manipulation in order to create a feeling of unity within the group against a society perceived as hostile.

Psychologists have identified love bombing as a possible part of a cycle of abuse and have warned against it.

Mass killings of landlords under Mao Zedong

Part of Mao Zedong's land reform during the late phase of the Chinese Civil War and the early People's Republic of China was a campaign of mass killings of landlords in order to redistribute land to the peasant class and landless workers.

It resulted in millions of deaths. Those killed were targeted on the basis of class rather than ethnicity, so terming the campaign genocide is incorrect. The neologism "classicide" is more accurate.

Class-motivated mass killings continued through the almost 30 years of social and economic transformation in Maoist China resulting in the deaths of 90% to 95% of the what used to be 15 million members of the landlord class in China according to Harry Wu

20 to 43 million people perished from starvation during the Great Leap Forward. Not all deaths during the Great Leap Forward were due to starvation. Frank Dikötter estimates that at least 2.5 million people were beaten or tortured to death and an additional 1 to 3 million people committed suicide.

The Great Leap Forward also led to the greatest destruction of real estate in human history, outstripping any of the bombing campaigns during World War II. Approximately 30 to 40 percent of all houses were demolished.

Who saw that 'Have you ever been stalked?' thread a couple days back?

I nearly posted the story of my 'first stalking' in high school and then decided against it, after seeing the responses in the thread..

He was a friend, of my friend's, boyfriend. I had no knowledge of it, and was only made aware, when she went to his house and found pictures of me all over his wall. Pictures I didn't even know were taken.

If that wasn't creepy enough, some months later we were at a mutual party and he broke down crying, after dramatically running down the middle of the road, telling me how much he loved me. All I could say was..Uuuuhh..Thank you?

He even invited me to his wedding years later, and then hugged me at the reception for far too long, saying 'thank you' over and over.

I like to think that meant, Thank you for being cool about that thing in high school, so I could find the real love of my life in college.. Last I saw, they has 3 kids.



AnywhOOo..I could not recall my friend's, boyfriend's name who was the common link between us. Today the synagogue shooter. Same first and last name as his. Spelled the same.

Different person though. Pretty weird.

Often wondered how people can claim to "love" someone they've never spent real time with. People can be rather complicated (lol), and until you've at least been with someone who's suffering from food poisoning...well, how can you love them?
Obsession is a different matter, coupled with an idolized view of the person.

Exactly. Crushes can feel like 'love' but I didn't know at the time.

I was totally oblivious, until our friend told me, after seeing my pictures on his wall. The feeling I had, when she told me, sticks with me still. It was mixture of confusion and strange distress. To suddenly have the weight of his feelings thrust on me.

In the early 90s, stalking wasn't really 'thing' so I didn't think much of it, other than it was weird.

When he broke down crying, I knew it more than weird.


I didn't want to injure him by being bitchy, or snobby so I just said thank you. And gave him a hug..

Not my philosophy, but the chemicals our body pumps can be pretty potent.

The picture part would stick with me more then any sobby "love confession". It can be difficult being on the receiving end of
unreciprocated feelings (ah...no...thank you...?) But the photos seem to take it to a different level for me.

At least the dude wasn't in the bushes taking them. ..was he..?

It has..as I aged. At 16, I just thought it was weird.

I never saw the pictures. My friend told him it was creepy, when she saw them, then told me.

Either way..he got over it, and got married and is a successful engineer, last I saw.

Just finished hosting my nephew's 17 birthday party. 10, 16 y/o boys, packed out the beach house, stayed up until the wee hours drinking milk and eating candy.

Not like the parties I remember at 16. They're all super achievers though..

mellow group of enjoyable young men feels a comfortable experience for all

weather here became unseasonably cold today and ive been laying around looking at it

I'm wondering if like teen pregnancy, if teen binge-drinking is on the decline.

It's a tough, harsh world they are attempting to get a toe-hold in. Very little room for error.

Maybe the hard partying days of America's youth, is at an end.

Probably for the better.


Use of Alcohol by Underage Youth

The 2013 National YRBS found that underage drinking rates are decreasing:

Lifetime use of alcohol by underage youth was 66.2%, which has fallen significantly over the past few decades (i.e., from 81.6% in 1991)

Current use of alcohol among underage youth was 34.9%, which has also fallen since 1991 (50.8%)
Note: A new report from SAMHSA21 offers even more promising numbers: In 2013, current use of alcohol among those ages 12–20 was 22.7%, down from 28.8% in 2002.
