More like I willingly jumped into the trap, trying to escape...

They were asking me questions as I tried to scale the outside of the bars after they came up to me. If I dropped I'd be impaled.

The questions they asked me still haunt me.

You jumped into the trap trying to escape? That's called being herded.
Sound tactics your ghostly assholes are using.

Did you decipher it yet?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1026622

It was sorta like a video game where I was led up a single path as I went. When I jumped in the rectangle spike box, I looked around and knew there was no where to go. Except, out. To the outside. Which was very risky. Which I did attempt.

I knew I was trapped. So I woke up. It was like an 'end game'. I died or something. I was trapped either way.
 Quoting: Seer777

Very profound. Make the deal or escape through death with your soul.
Can you place two wraiths?

Poe made the show.

Comic relief holds a major role. It balances the tragedy.

Of which...comes in spades.

 Quoting: Sol-tari

In Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind, Yuval Noah Harari observes that our species conquered the globe because of our ability to share stories about things that don’t objectively exist, such as “gods, nations, and corporations.” Such fictions allowed us to organize around shared values, goals, and ideas. It was not exactly wisdom—sapiens—that gave us dominion, but creative storytelling. We are Homo fabulator. “The real difference between us and chimpanzees is the mythical glue that binds together large numbers of individuals, families and groups,” Harari writes. “This glue has made us masters of creation.”

Unlike the Neanderthals and other early humans who could work together in groups of at most 150 individuals, we learned to cooperate in groups of thousands, tens of thousands, millions—simply by telling stories to forge shared dreams. But now, this gift is in danger. As the speed and efficiency of computer processing increases at predictable rates, our ability to author our own destinies is being consumed by a conjured figment of our imagination: the internet.

This is a good article. Funny how much of the article is about targerted advertising and there is a scrolling whiskey ad that following the whole article down.

No ad on my laptop, just the tablet.

We carry it around in our pockets. We wear it on our wrists. We devote more than 10.5 hours a day to screen time.

Facebook has conducted experiments on us that show how susceptible we are to mind control. In 2012, the company secretly tampered with the news feeds of nearly 700,000 people, manipulating the ratio of emotionally positive to emotionally negative posts, then monitoring the subsequent activity of those users.

What they found is that emotions can be remotely controlled and are highly contagious on the platform. People who saw more unhappy posts showed more unhappy activity and vice versa. Many questioned the experiment’s legality and ethics, wondering if Facebook had triggered any suicides. Facebook apologized for the way the experiments were conducted and promised to conduct them “differently” in the future, with enhanced review.

People are very easy to control using emotional triggers disguised as positive reinforcement, and the susceptibility to echo chamber in social media, is terrifying.

World of Warcraft utilized this same methodology when when they changed the word 'unrested' to 'normal' and 'normal' to 'rested'.

There's a segment in this episode I can't find. In it, Cartman is hosting a podcast in which he advises who is considered good "friend stock". People with "undesirables" on their list were quickly ostracized by their peers.

As the video states people are already signing up (and i agree with their assessment of those who do). It is easy to see it aiding a dictatorship, however i wonder how it would work in a divided populace (such as US).

The entire episode is disconcerting in the manner you mention. It very effectively shows what will be the result of those who 'embrace' the system only to later watch as it fails them for a slight misstep or mistake.

In the vid on Exposing the Chinese Dystopia, there is a Chinese man who suffers her same fate after doing or saying something against the Party. Now he is in hiding and is unable to rent a car, get a motel or any basic services.

Like any tool/idea it's all in the way it's used. Is it human nature to use them in such ways? The same kind of people in positions of power? Meh, chicken/egg with a few other things thrown in.

How's the show to play out, that's the question.

Throughout the 17th century and the 18th century and the 19th century, this continent teemed with manifold projects and magnificent purposes. Above them all and weaving them all together into the most exciting flag of all the world and of all history was the triumphal purpose of freedom.
It is in this spirit that all of us are called, each to his own measure of capacity, and each in the widest horizon of his vision, to create the first great American Century.
