Re: Mad World
No. It's not like that at all.

When I was little my dad use to tell me how I would 'Break a lot of hearts..'

While I know he meant well..it really is a curse to put on someone.

A couple weeks ago I was down South helping to care for my mom after major surgery. My brother came down after nearly a week to help and was showing my dad some pics of my niece.

He said how she would 'break a lot of hearts' and I said..You know that's a curse?

My brother immediately said..Yeah it is..

My dad then says..It just means she'll be beautiful..

Thread: Buckle Up, Folks: Crop-tastrophe In The Midwest – Latest USDA Progress Report Signals Nightmare Scenario

"The last 12 months have been the wettest in all of U.S. history, and this has created absolutely horrific conditions for U.S. farmers. Thanks to endless rain and historic flooding that has stretched on for months, many farmers have not been able to plant crops at all, and a lot of the crops that have actually been planted are deeply struggling. What this means is that U.S. agricultural production is going to be way, way down this year. The numbers that I am about to share with you are deeply alarming, and they should serve as a wake up call for all of us. The food that each one of us eats every day is produced by our farmers, and right now our farmers are truly facing a nightmare scenario."

You know what is not a joke?

Hunger and availability.

It changed the world. Again and agin.

'Wealth' is often a matter of perspective and situational awareness.

I saw a story the other day about Boris Yeltsin visiting an American grocery store in 1989.

[link to imgur.com]

He was so taken aback by the selections Americans took for granted, it changed him as an individual. And eventually, his countries path.

When Boris Yeltsin went grocery shopping in Clear Lake

Yeltsin, then 58, “roamed the aisles of Randall’s nodding his head in amazement,” wrote Asin. He told his fellow Russians in his entourage that if their people, who often must wait in line for most goods, saw the conditions of U.S. supermarkets, “there would be a revolution.”

...

About a year after the Russian leader left office, a Yeltsin biographer later wrote that on the plane ride to Yeltsin’s next destination, Miami, he was despondent. He couldn’t stop thinking about the plentiful food at the grocery store and what his countrymen had to subsist on in Russia.

In Yeltsin’s own autobiography, he wrote about the experience at Randall’s, which shattered his view of communism, according to pundits. Two years later, he left the Communist Party and began making reforms to turn the economic tide in Russia. You can blame those frozen Jell-O Pudding pops.

“When I saw those shelves crammed with hundreds, thousands of cans, cartons and goods of every possible sort, for the first time I felt quite frankly sick with despair for the Soviet people,” Yeltsin wrote. “That such a potentially super-rich country as ours has been brought to a state of such poverty! It is terrible to think of it.”

It appears that Gupta had been reported missing just hours earlier on Wednesday. The Montgomery County Police Department said in a Facebook post that Gupta was last seen by family when he left his home around 9:20 a.m.

I recently heard about what some call, the 'first 9/11'.

I have been wondering ever since, if the date was chosen for our 9/11, for that reason. Those who did the choosing that is..

I've been trying to find a way to broach this topic for months now.

In South America 9/11 is remembered as the anniversary of the US backed coup in Chile that installed the Pinochet dictatorship (1973)
[link to imgur.com (secure)]

1dunno1
 Quoting: Seer777

Augusto Pinochet: Villain to Some, Hero to Others

On Sept. 11, 1973, he ordered a fierce ground and air assault on the presidential palace. In a recorded radio communication that day, Pinochet discussed the attack with Vice Admiral Patricio Carvajal, a fellow coup plotter. Carvajal had been in touch with Allende, who was holed up in the palace, and he relayed a message that Allende wanted to talk.

Pinochet interrupts him, shouting, "Unconditional surrender! No negotiation! Unconditional surrender!"

...

As it turned out, Allende was never put on a plane. Surrounded and under attack, he shot himself in the head rather than surrender to Pinochet's forces.

In the days that followed, Pinochet's security forces rounded up Allende supporters wherever they could find them. Many were tortured. More than 3,000 were killed or disappeared. One hundred thousand Allende supporters went into exile.

Ariel Dorfman, who fled to the United States, thinks Pinochet concluded that once he launched his brutal crackdown, he had no option but to go all the way.

"When you begin with that level of violence, I think the fear that is generated inside people like Pinochet forces them to continue a reign of terror that will not stop because it's the only way in which you can silence the voices," Dorfman says. "Remember that Allende had received 45 percent of the vote in the previous election. That's an enormous amount of people to repress."

Article from 2003

Two 9/11s, one story

Roger Burbach

To understand better what happened in New York in 2001, go back to Chile in 1973

On the morning of September 11 I watched aircraft flying overhead. Minutes later I heard explosions and saw fireballs of smoke fill the sky. As a result of these attacks thousands died, including two good friends.
I am not writing about September 11 2001 in New York City. I am writing about another September 11 - an equally horrible one - in 1973. The planes I saw were warplanes and their target was the presidential palace in Santiago, Chile. These two September 11s are related in many ways, and both help us understand why George Bush has led the US into a quagmire in Iraq.

On September 11 1973 Salvador Allende resided in the Chilean presidential palace. He was the first freely elected socialist leader in the world, and ever since his victory in September 1970, the CIA and the US government, headed by Richard Nixon and Henry Kissinger, were determined to oust Allende and his Popular Unity coalition.

[link to www.theguardian.com (secure)]

^^

Just found out about this rather recently, having been completely ignorant of said event, up to that time.

Could our 9/11 been in part, a revenge attack for the Chilean 9/11?

Seems plausible..

Re: Mad World
cont..

However, the network continued to act throughout Latin America at least until the early 1980s. Chilean and Argentine military units assisted the dictator Anastasio Somoza in Nicaragua, and helped set up death squads in El Salvador. Argentine units also aided Honduran military death squads that began operating in the early 80s with the direct assistance and collaboration of the CIA.

Similarities abound between the emergence of terrorist networks in Latin America and events leading to the rise of al-Qaida. Osama bin Laden first became involved in militant Islamist activities when he went to Afghanistan in the 1980s to fight with the Mujahideen against the Soviet-backed regime that had taken power.

Even in the 1980s it was recognised that many of those fighting against the Soviets and the Afghan government were religious fanatics who had no loyalty to their US sponsors.

Memory Hole

A memory hole is any mechanism for the alteration or disappearance of inconvenient or embarrassing documents, photographs, transcripts or other records, such as from a website or other archive, particularly as part of an attempt to give the impression that something never happened.

The concept was first popularized by George Orwell's dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, where the Party's Ministry of Truth systematically re-created all potentially embarrassing historical documents, in effect, re-writing all of history to match the often-changing state propaganda. These changes were complete and undetectable.
