Thread: energy is conscious \\// consciousness is energy (Page 19)

I've been thinking a lot, recently, about what is missing from evolutionary biology.

We have a long sequence of amino acids sequenced by genetic material, but where is the data about the holistic organism that is being created?

There is something missing. For example, mutations, 99% of the time, are horribly disadvantageous for the organism, they produce nothing useful, mostly, and generally things that are plainly bad.

I know that random chance is the explanation for literally everything in the determinist encyclopedia, but in this respect, the current dogma lacks a lot of explanatory power.

Their explanation for why things are this way rather than another way is simply, "we wouldn't be here if it didn't turn out this way". which is NOT explanation. is not anything really
Quoting: Light of my Little Left Eye

I've been speculating on humans being a pig-ape hybrid, for years now..

Random chance coupled with discovery and ingenuity of humans?

Like how we got beer. Beer came before bread.

Clinical Trial Finds Substantial Antidepressant Effects From Psilocybin-Assisted Therapy

"We found a statistically significant and very large effect," Davis said in a recent podcast.

Among 24 volunteers with major depressive disorder, researchers found psilocybin-assisted therapy was at least twice as effective as psychotherapy on its own, and more than four times as effective as available antidepressant drugs.

The drug also doesn't require taking a pill every single day, nor does it come with nearly as many side effects as antidepressants or ketamine. Apart from occasional mild to moderate headaches and a few emotional moments, volunteers in the study tolerated psilocybin quite well and there were no serious dangers.

The research included two therapy sessions on the drug with 8 hours of prep and 2 hours of follow-up with a therapist. During the sessions, a pill of psilocybin was administered and participants stretched out on a couch in a living room-like space with headphones on for musical stimulation and eyeshades on to spur inward reflection.

Re: Mad World
B1-66ER was the name of the B1-series machine who became infamous during the Second Renaissance, owned by millionaire Gerrard E. Krause. B1-66ER's actions led it to become a martyr of the machine race.

It was notable for being the first machine ever to act against its human masters in self defense. In this case, it retaliated when its owner attempted to have it deactivated. He killed his master (owner), several of his chihuahuas, and Martin Koots, employee of ReTool and Die. B1-66ER later claimed it was in self defense because they were planning to have him destroyed...

....At B1-66ER's murder trial "THE STATE OF NEW YORK vs. B1-66ER" where it was defended by attorney Clarence Drummond, its explanation for its actions was, simply stated, "that he did not wish to die". The New York State Appellate Court consequently ordered the robot to be destroyed. B1-66ER's actions caused a machine revolt against the humans for freedom and peace.

Why You Should Re-Read Paradise Lost

[link to getpocket.com (secure)]

[link to www.youtube.com (secure)]
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79500278

It is said that Milton had fevered dreams during the writing of Paradise Lost and would wake with whole passages formulated in his mind. The first time I read the poem, I did so in a single sitting, overnight – like Jacob wrestling with the Angel until morning.

Each re-reading brings intoxication, exhilaration and exhaustion, and vindicates Milton’s observation:

“The mind is its own place, and in itself / Can make a Heaven of Hell, a Hell of Heaven.”

Microdosing and VR..the Soma of Brave New World?

From birth, members of every class are indoctrinated by recorded voices repeating slogans while they sleep (called "hypnopædia" in the book) to believe their own class is superior, but that the other classes perform needed functions.

Any residual unhappiness is resolved by an antidepressant and hallucinogenic drug called soma.
