Christian families are often chosen to adopt children, while children languish years in foster care. People who would have good intent, are unable to meet the costs. I don't why it costs so much to adopt. I looked into it in 20 years ago and it was 50k+ and waiting 7-9 years, was the accept norm. Her name was, Rachael. She had a mother that wanted to care for her, but couldn't care for herself. She was eventually adopted I found out years later, after running into her mom, back on the streets. Z was a grand, and worth every penny =) 10s of millions of Chinese girls were aborted and abandoned rather than give them a chance with people who were willing to raise them. People kill their kids all the time after they're born, while those of use who didn't have but wanted kids wonder why it is like this. The Simpsons did an episode where Selma or Patty adopts a Chinese baby and the hoops she has to jump through to adopt an 'unwanted child'. I looked into it and it was 30K to adopt a baby out of Ethiopia or Somolia 15 years ago. Where malaria/starvation would kill 1 of 5 on a regular basis. Nothing makes sense. Enough people get one without considering what is required...not only in all the initial teaching, socialising, etc - but for the entire lifetime of the pet... It's why you see pounds full of dumped animals. My mum got herself this beautiful hand raised bird, can't remember the breed. This thing loved being out and interacting with the family...last time I saw it the feathers were falling out and it would bite anyone who put their hand near it...she'd had it for like 2 months. It didn't bite out of aggression...the vast majority of times they'd touch it was to put it back in the cage after its brief moments out. It makes sense why when you consider if it was cheap...like adopting an animal can be...well, nasty people always look for bait dogs And while many of these institutions may have been founded with the right intention...inevitably those founders pass and those in it for the money/wrong reasons rise to power *Glitches May Occur. Around $8/hr. Had to support myself, my bills, half the rent and all costs of living. Constant money stress. I would have given her all the safety and love her mother wanted to but couldn't but didn't have the financial support to appeal to adoption. Foster Care is a whole other animal. Corporate life never appealed to me, and I was lucky to find an artistic niche that worked for me. I'm at peace now, not having had kids, but I know how much it hurt along the way. I don't enjoy seeing those younger than me..having to face the same choice. But they are anyway. All over the world. I know why. It's really very simple. The recorded number given is not 100% accurate, and the actual figure falls someone within + of it or - under it.
