The same can’t be said for the voters who describe themselves as part of the Republican establishment, which the poll recorded as 29 percent of the likely electorate. For now, Trump has 23 percent from those who consider themselves Republican establishment voters, followed by Cruz at 22 percent. Senator Marco Rubio and his one time mentor, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, are both at 12 percent.

Why is this considered such a shock?
Trump is not conservative (a former Clintonista actually), not particularly religious, has no foreign policy chops, no policy specifics beyond saying "I'll do XXXXXX and make them pay for it"...
In reality, Trump shouldn't be close in Iowa...
I will give him lots of credit for raising the border/illegal immigration issue and his ability to amass a giant personal fortune (and be a fantastic reality show character).
I still think he's doing this for ego but along the way, he got caught up in the fervor and that same ego won't allow him a graceful exit. If he stays in, somehow wins nomination, he will get crushed by Hillary. In Trump world, he has carte blanche' for business & his lifestyle so the constraints of government executive would make him a less effective POTUS than Obama even.

I have been saying that if Trump wins Iowa by more than 5%, it's all over. He'll win N.H., S. Carolina, etc.

While I know it's impossible to say, for certain, if Trump is 100% legit. But, it's so much fun watching the establishment squirm! Could it be a set up? Maybe.
