The gamification of social engineering and control
Bringing a current thread to a more accurate title for more in-depth discussion. The pure evil that this represents when taken to its logical end deserves to be heard.

Re: The gamification of social engineering and control
I think it is a fair assumption that the likes of Facebook or other sources would potentially be involved in any real global push for this type of platform. You can make all the charts, graphs and scoring systems you like, but without the data to input the "game" would fail. A company like Facebook which already asserts their political activism at times would provide real weight behind the data. That data is simply information that was already freely given by users.

Re: The gamification of social engineering and control
So, with China being an apparent test run for this type of control system, what would be the next phase? China would be a big win in terms of population numbers being made to exist under this program. In terms of ease of adoption, they might be viewed as low hanging fruit, due to the Communist framework that causes much of the population to be subservient to the state already. Where would the next logical step be seen?

Re: The gamification of social engineering and control
Is it too late? Have we freely given all the data that would be needed to score as Big Brother sees fit? The scores we have already set would be placed within the confines of a scoring system that would be designed after the fact. The troubling thing, beyond the concept of the system of control itself, would be that your score would be set before we knew how we would even be scored.

Re: The gamification of social engineering and control
who knows, I think humanity has that rebellious spirit and a desire to be free

all this shit will probably fail when it runs into reality

With a lot of this stuff too, they have the past to contend with so unless they can burn all the old stuff people will just go to that instead, even if it's less flashy/modern.

You might be right. I certainly hope so. I have a feeling that there will be a subtle slow creep to this process. Something that we don't fully notice until we are meant to notice.

Even now, we have people who are routinely fired for simply having an opinion that differs with whomever is in a position of power. This is all related to data that has been collected through social media. When this is put into a centralized scoring system with graphs and gauges the need for activist application of peer pressure becomes less. The system its self would begin to take over.

This system is a failed system from the start.

Fun one for gov and ingenious one for social engineer but it's failed from birth.

PPl are dum but not as dum on a long period. It's shooting in its own foot again for China if they go this way.

Fear remains the main lineage.

From a report from Gartner in 2011:

"The goals of gamification are to achieve higher levels of engagement, change behaviors and stimulate innovation. The opportunities for businesses are great – from having more engaged customers, to crowdsourcing innovation or improving employee performance. Gartner identified four principal means of driving engagement using gamification:"

I would like to think you are right, but I have my doubts about where this could lead. It is far easier to resist the oppressive heavy hand of government then perhaps a system that could have more subtle effects on thought and action. A large segment of the population would feel compelled, whether due to family responsibility or other issues, to fall into line. The inertia of a population can have seriously detrimental effects. See Nazi Germany as an example.

Re: The gamification of social engineering and control
From MIT Technology Review 2014:

[link to www.technologyreview.com]

"Deciphering people’s behavior is only the first step. What really excites Pentland is the prospect of using digital media and related tools to change people’s behavior, to motivate groups and individuals to act in more productive and responsible ways. If people react predictably to social influences, then governments and businesses can use computers to develop and deliver carefully tailored incentives, such as messages of praise or small cash payments, to “tune” the flows of influence in a group and thereby modify the habits of its members. Beyond improving the efficiency of transit and health-care systems, Pentland suggests, group-based incentive programs can make communities more harmonious and creative. “Our main insight,” he reports, “is that by targeting [an] individual’s peers, peer pressure can amplify the desired effect of a reward on the target individual.” Computers become, as McLuhan envisioned, civic thermostats. They not only register society’s state but bring it into line with some prescribed ideal. Both the tracking and the maintenance of the social order are automated."

Fear base always failed.

I don'T say it's not good for the time it's run its course. After all, we learn from experience and geting out of comfty zone is ofter trigger by fear.. But when it's the main trigger, it veyr quickly go 'viral' using the youtube word.

Believe me, if they implimente this within 3-5 yrs it crash and politician there want to adapt to Hong Kong so, they will just reajust. As ours do.

I don't think some of the more democratic nations would be the next phase personally. That may be to big a jump. I don't know where the next step would be though. I do think the ground work is being laid via Facebook and other social media data capture operations. They are steadily compiling the data that can be utilized in some form in the future.
