Cleaner, better kept up. No ghettos. Much less trash. Up until a few years ago (it might still be the case), Moscow was the most expensive city in which to live and visit. When I was there, the cheapest hotel in Moscow was $700 USD/night. Had to stay at a hostel. But it was great. The hostel was an apartment that a Russian guy rented and then sub-let to tourists. For two weeks, I lived in on the 4th floor of a Moscow apartment building with a broken elevator. Walked everywhere. Used the spectacular subway (based in the world). Also in Russia, you can "hitchhike". A driver will pull over, ask where you're going, if he's willing to take you there, you negotiate a price, and off you go.
