If you were an Iraqi, and your country had been invaded for no good reason and placed under a brutal military occupation for over 3 years now, a guy doing his best ot repel the foriegn invaders who have been victimizing you, your nieghbors, and your family might be seen as a hero. If, however, you were a citzen of the invading power, and you chose to see the unjustified military adventurism of your corrupt and criminal "leadrship" as some sort of good thing, then you might now see this Iraqi patriot as a hero. It all depends on how you look at it. |

Those who are complaining are the ones who have no idea why the troops are there. they genuinely think that USA is actually there for a good reason. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 151450I think you forget. Iraqis didn't ask you to go in. There was no want of any freedom. they had more freedom than what you have in USA now (with all the new laws in place). They didn't complain. They didn't uprise and they didn't ask you for help. But your leaders based on lies and claimes of freedom has destroyed that country in to nothing and stolen their oil. Now you are saying let them fight for their own freedom. Yes... they are now fighting for their freedom from the Americans. Apart from Americans there is no one else to fight with. there never was. |

Bullshit. I've seen and been with ate up regular army units as well. I've been with a national guard infantry unit (air assault) that performed well in Iraq. Easy for you to say as you sit at home in front of your computer. They are ordinary people, thank god. I'm proud to serve with them. They carry out their missions like any other soldier does in the face of equipment shortages, faulty and obsolete equipment, death and the lack of support from the American people. When the mission is over, they go home and prepare for another 18 month deployment. They have performed in sub-zero weather or 120 degree temperatures. They are no different than any other soldiers. They are not perfect as any other Army or Marine units are and there will be problem soldiers regardless of component. It is easy to disparage these soldiers from the comfort of your home. Next time you do, enlist go to the sandbox and write from there. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 156475 remember they are the reserves/national guard. they meet and go over "training" several times a year. they gave up jobs as teachers, gas station workers, students working for college money and training. ordinary people." from an earlier post and thus my reply followed thereafter. There is the assumption that these reservists and national guardsmen are mere "weekend warriors" with the implication that they are poorly trained as can be derived from the earlier post. Don't forget that those who were first on the beach on D-Day (WW2) were from the 29th INF DIV (National Guard) with the 1st INF DIV (Regular Army). They were "teachers, gas station workers, students working for college money and training. ordinary people." - and so were the 30th INF DIV, 28th INF DIV, 40th INF DIV, etc. I for one never agreed with this war and before I left had openly protested against it. Many feel that the military should have stood up against the president and his cohorts even to the point of covert disobedience bordering on a coup. The military should not involve itself in politics. It serves a civilian master. I would be very afraid when the military decides to act on its own interest, free of civilian oversight and outright control. That's what you have in banana republics with some colonel or so deciding that the military should act on its own bypassing the government that controls it. |

So, they rose up against the Evil Dictator. Bravely, they stood, Shiites and Kurds, arm in arm, to fight the Evil One. And what happened next. Look it up.
