what about potatoes and onions? apples, bananas?

what is healthy/safe to eat from safeway?

the only thing i can think of is the meats and they're pretty suspect aswell?

Why do supermarkets import peaches from out of state during our local peach season?

What's the point in selling unripe peaches that have been ruined by freezer storage?

There's a conspiracy to destroy fresh produce so consumers will be forced to purchase processed 'faith-based' food.

I think that most mass produced fruits and vegetables are grown in depleted soil which does not give the produce the maximum amount of healthy nutrients. There are still some nutritional value to them, however, and if you cannot afford organic, you should at least soak the produce in a vegitable wash that removes most pesticides and scrub them as well.

But no matter how much fresh produce you eat, it's best to supplement your diet with vitamins for the reason given above.

To the best of my recolection ... 'Fresh' produce begins to lose vitamine content from the time it is harvested. A LOT will depend on the temperature it is stored at ( railroad car at 90 degrees F, or refrigerated truck at 38 degrees F, say ) and the LENGTH of time from farm ( California ? ) to store.

After 3 days, between 30 to 40 % vitamines may be gone, but mineral content and fiber are virtually uneffected. Oxidation, like of orange juice, causes rapid loss of vitamine C, so that, after three days from when it's opened, you have lost 60-70 % , depending on how long the container was left open, and the room temperature. Generally speaking, ALL chemical reactions precede at a faster rate when temps RISE.

By the way, vitamine C only lasts in the body about 4 hours, before removal by urination. THAT is WHY vitamine C should be taken in ALL DAY, NOT just at breakfast. It helps keep cell walls strong, and viris, which CAN NOT reproduce themselves, MUST invade a weak cell to have the RNA ( RiboNucleicAcid )inside make MORE of the very viris that is killing it.

Example: ever hear of smokers getting cancer of the fingers, toes, ears, arms/legs ? NO. ONLY where the smoke touches ... lips, tongue, mouth, throat, esophagus and lungs. Nicotine DESTROYS vitamine C ON contact; therefore cell walls where it touches are weak, and easily invaded !

I posted on this a few months ago -

Nutritional content Today vs 1979

Nutritional content 1979 vs circa 1910.

DRASTIC Reductions in contents.

Wheat in 1979 had very little Protein in it as compared to wheat of 1910.

Do the work - you'll be STARTLED.

Yes, even frozen peas are better than no peas at all.
In Edmonton we have several farmers' markets, open one day a week, where you can buy locally grown organic vegetables and range fed beef, elk, bison and chicken at the same price as Safeway's feedlot meat.
Also spices have many valuable trace elements and nutrients. Cook spicy!
