People are Buying ZIMBABWE DOLLARS on eBay.. For ALOT of money

A lot were buying Iraqi dinars years ago thinking the value would eventually rise a lot, it didn't or at least hasn't yet.

A 100-trillion-dollar bill, it turns out, is worth about $5.
That's the going rate for Zimbabwe's highest denomination note, the biggest ever produced for legal tender—and a national symbol of monetary policy run amok. At one point in 2009, a hundred-trillion-dollar bill couldn't buy a bus ticket in the capital of Harare.

But since then the value of the Zimbabwe dollar has soared. Not in Zimbabwe, where the currency has been abandoned, but on eBay.

The notes are a hot commodity among currency collectors and novelty buyers, fetching 15 times what they were officially worth in circulation.

what a bunch of idiots... no currency has never lasted forever..

dealers estimate that the regime printed roughly five million to seven million bills in the 100-trillion-dollar denomination. Based on the serial numbers and known supply of bills in the collector's market, they believe only a few million were actually released.

I bought trillions of uncirluted bills about 4 years ago for next to nothing online. The price has gone way up I guess.

I can see where someone young would think it's cool to have one and show their friends. I can see them also not researching the value and overpaying :(

serious collectors are only interested in uncirculated currency—for the same reasons that baseball card or action-figure enthusiasts will pay a premium for pieces in mint condition

i bought some to give away at Christmas , just for fun, was like 25$ for 25 million

Then consider the fun of a note with nominal value of billions...costing you a couple of dollars.

That means the Zimbabwe dollar is severely under valued! I will contact President Mugabe immediately with this great news! He will be very pleased!

I gave one to my teenage son, I think it was 50 trillion, I wonder if he still has it.

im not sure whats going on here. but ZIM just pegged their currency to the CHINESE YUAN accepting it as reserve currency.

something may be in the works here. even zerohedge was talking about it a few weeks ago.

it was officially retired/abandoned in Sept 2015, so it is worthless as currency, just a novelty now

He says ZIMBABWE dollars are lighter than silver....Toilet paper is lighter than them both and right now but TP has a higher value than the Zimbabwe dollars.

Invest in toilet paper!!!
