Why is Led Zeppelin considered to be a better band than Iron Maiden?

One, Led Zeppelin led et al. the way for Iron Maiden et al.

I'd guess it was the uniqueness of their sound at the time, and the subsequent influence they had on others over the decades.

I know Maiden has been a huge influence to many (myself included), but I think their influence is less broad than Zeppelin's was.

This. Iron Maiden is good, but they are no Led Zeppelin.

Because Led Zepplin made the number one song of all time, Stairway to Heaven, and Iron Maiden didn't.

They're better at channeling demons for their songs? By their own admission they channeled stairway to heaven and wrote it in a matter of minutes. One of them lives in Aleister Crowleys former estate in England, I forget which.

What led zep was doing during their like period was unlike any other band or music, of hard rock. Kinda like Black Sabbath, innovators of heavy metal.

Maiden is an awesome band though.

Led Zeppelin is just better. The fact is in the music. Led Zep moves you when you hear it.

Iron Maiden, eh.... they are good. 2 different classes of bands there. Iron Maiden is viewed as a heavy metal top of the line hair band.

Zep was never viewed as such, Zep and Pink Floyd transcend stereotype. Just awesomeness, that is all.

Iron Maiden is a cartoonish wimpfest and all their stuff sounds the same.

Led Zeppelin rocks out in places that I didn't even know exist.

A sour apple appeals to a lot fewer people.

Led Zeppelin has a broader fan base, and more diverse style. Iron Maiden is a bit too harsh for a lot of people. Iron Maiden fans are rabid about their music, which could put off others. I listen to Iron Maiden with one of my sons, but I listen to Zeppelin all the time. I like both, but prefer Led Zeppelin.

Zeppelin came out first, and were no doubt influential to maiden along with countless other bands.

I like maiden better personally. Sick to death of Zeppelin.

But Zeppelin will always hold a higher mainstream status than maiden. Just the way it is.

Metallica has sold far more metal albums than megadeth, and while I like both, I think megadeth is far better. Doesn't mean megadeth has the wide open mainstream accessibility that Metallica does. Don't know if that makes sense.

Weather Led Zeppelin is better than Maiden, it's a matter of taste in music. I personally like Maiden better. There is a large group of people who will disagree with me. All arguments are valid on both sides of this. No one is right or wrong.

Listen to the entire catalog of both bands. Tell me which is more prolific, more diverse and more creative.

led zep is very similar to the rolling stones in the blues rock area but with more polish and class.

Yeah, OP this is the kind of crap inspired by Iron Maiden. It should be explication enough if you can make it 30 seconds.

Back in the 80s I used to make mix tapes alternating Zep and Maiden. Also used to fuck without rubbers with no fear. Times have changed.

In my teens and 20s I listened to both. As I got older into my mid 40s, I aged out of Led Zeppelin. To me they now sound sophomoric. Still love me some Maiden though.
