It is going down to 18 degrees tonight, let my dog in and he went berserk after a few minutes and wanted back outside!
The temperature was going down to 18 degrees tonight, so I let my dog in the house. After I let him in, he went crazy after 15 minutes. He wanted to go back outside in the cold!

He stayed in a few minutes and wanted back outside, so I let him back out in the cold.

Why in the world would he want to go back outside in the freezing temperatures?

I am going to check on him in a few hours to see if he wants to come back inside, but if it is freezing outside, why would he want to stay outside?

I just don't know.

But I have a dog that does the same thing. All 3 of my dogs sleep in the laundry room with dog beds, old comforters and blankets. It's really cold outside but one dog leaves the warm cozy beds & would rather sleep in the dirt.

I made an outside bed with a futon cushion and he still would rather sleep in a clawed out hole that he makes. All curled up by himself.

I don't know why.

I just offered to let him back in again and he refused to come inside.

I just cannot understand why my dog will not come inside in such cold temperatures. What is his problem? I thought about forcing him inside. 18 degrees is very cold. He is a large dog, and has a lot of fur, but I think 18 degrees is just too cold for him to stay outside.

Alabama, the temperatures are forcasted to reach 18 degrees tonight. I think that is too cold for my dog to be outside.

Good Luck OP.
It is 3F here...just took my dog for a walk and he didn't want to stay outside long at all--only did one lap around the block--usually we walk 10-15 blocks.
Take the red pill now...later it will come as a suppository.

If you had a heavy jacket on inside your house now would you be comfortable? If not, there's your answer.

I have Pet door so the dog goes in and out as she pleases or needs to. I highly recommend it.

I have chosen to force him inside tonight. 18 degrees is very cold. I do not want my dog to suffer in those temperatures.

I will put him in the bathroom where there is no heat. I just don't feel comfortable leaving him outside in 18 degree temperatures.

Thank God for people like OP...

I don't know how animals survived before the invention of central heat.

Think of all the poor rabbits, and deers, and bears, and coyotes, and foxes, and bobcats, and birds, and squirrels -that have no warm place to be...

they will all surely die tonight...

Dam, 18 degrees is below freezing!

I just cannot understand why my dog wanted back outside.

You would think that he was comfortable and warm inside the house.

However, he went to the door and scratched on the door wanted back outside in the freezing temperatures.

It just doesn't make any sense to me.

I have decided to force him to stay inside tonight in the bathroom, which is not heated, at least the temperature will be above freezing.

They have holes and dens to crawl into for warmth. Squirrels and mice have invaded my country cabin to shelter for the Winter. They prefer the best shelter they can find . A dog deserves at least as much I'd say.

Maybe it felt hot in the house to him. Do you have a garage maybe? So place not as warm but not freezing?

You can now go to jail in CT for leaving a pet out in the cold like that. New state law this year.

My dog has been inside now for 30 minutes and wants to go back outside in the freezing temperatures. I am NOT going to let him outside. He just stares at me with a look to let him back out. I feel very sorry for him, but I cannot just let him back out in the cold below freezing temperatures.

I placed him in a bathroom with no heat. The temp should not exceed 65 degrees in there.

He finally settled down after being in the bathroom with no heat. It is probably less than 65 degrees in there. No heat flows to our bathroom during the night.

I guess he thought the temp was too high in the rest of the house.

Dogs do freeze up and die in the cold. I have seen it in the 10 to 15 below zero range. They had shelters with hay but it was just too cold. Very sad. (They were not mine...it wasn't me that left them out!)

18 above zero, though? They seem to do OK.
