And there's no other known force that should be modifying the behavior of quarks in a nucleus so intensely. Yet, the effect remains: Particle physicists call it the EMC effect, named for the European Muon Collaboration, the group that discovered it. And until recently, scientists weren't sure what caused it. Quoting: today[link to www.livescience.com (secure)] "What is clear is that the traditional model of nuclear physics … cannot explain this EMC effect," he said. "We now think that the explanation must be coming from QCD itself." Quoting: todayQCD stands for quantum chromodynamics — the system of rules that govern the behavior of quarks. Shifting from nuclear physics to QCD is a bit like looking at the same picture twice: once on a first-generation flip phone — that's nuclear physics — and then again on a high-resolution TV — that's quantum chromodynamics. The high-res TV offers a lot more detail, but it's a lot more complicated to build. The problem is that the complete QCD equations describing all the quarks in a nucleus are too difficult to solve, Cloët and Hen both said. Modern supercomputers are about 100 years away from being fast enough for the task, Cloët estimated. And even if supercomputers were fast enough today, the equations haven't advanced to the point where you could plug them into a computer, he said. Evidence of human settlements at the site can be traced back to around 9,000 BC. Considered by many a wonder of the ancient world, this ancient city is also home to the oldest known protective wall on the surface of the planet. Not only that, but archaeological excavations have revealed that Jericho is also home to the oldest stone towers on the planet. Quoting: todayIt is believed that the site where Jericho was eventually formed became a popular ground for “hunter-gatherers’ around 10,000 BC. Scholars believe that as the cold period caused by the Younger Dryas came to an end, around 9,600 BC, the area became the center of year-round habitation. Archeological evidence indicates that by around 8,000 BC, the site grew to a city of 40,000 square meters (430,000 square feet). A protective wall already surrounded the city by then. Its dimensions: 3.6 meters (11.8 feet) high and 1.8 meters (5.9 feet) wide at the base. According to the data and methodologies in this study Gould’s Belt simply doesn't exist. But Moses might have had a hand in promoting it to the official script in his camp. When Akhenaten outlawed iconography, it became awkward to use hieroglyphics, since so many of the glyphs were pictographs of pagan gods. The easiest way to keep writing, without offending the Aten, would have been just to write in shorthand -- instead of drawing the full glyph, to just use a few of the more salient strokes. This shorthand script had already been developed, and was already in use in the Sinai, just for the convenience of it. But with the arrival of Moses, there was a more powerful reason, and it would seem logical that the J ws would record their history & beliefs in that shorthand script, not in hieroglyphics.
