I used to have a long haired orange cat that drank from the faucet. He was pretty vocal too. I think he was part Maine Coon or Norweigan Forest Cat. Cats Rock!

Maincoons are vocal and very smart.. anything can be trained to a cat really, just depends on the cattitude of the cat.

My cat is a mix with Norwegian forest cat, and is a babbler, she is very vocal and also very expressive, she taught us how to recognize the 'hey my litter-box needs to be looked after' - mew, as well as food, drink a 'uh oh i have a hairball on the way out'- mew.
Etc etc.

My cat also drinks from the tap, right after he turns it on.

Now, if he would turn it off when he is done drinking, then I would be impressed.

He also opens doors and turns lights on and off, talks, loves kisses and comes when called to the surprise of my friends and neighbours.

It's a Maine coon. They talk a lot, follow you around like a dog plus most of them really like water.

I have a Huge, longhair black cat that is phenomenal too!

He opens drawers, doors, talks and has taught himself to use the toilet. Now, he's trying to teach the other cat how to do all of this as well.

Don't know his breeding, maybe those listed above. His size and facial structure would lead me to believe the Maine Coon or NTC is certainly a possibility.

I have a long haired, black cat who absolutely has some Maine Coon in him - he's HUGE. He likes to do the same things as yours, but also has a no closed door policy in the house. If there is a closed door which hasn't latched, he will open it. And then bitch at you for having closed it. He also follows me around like a dog, and is with me most of the time. I'm pretty sure yours likes you already and will stick around. This is the funniest/most fun and loving cat I've ever had. Glad he found you. :)

My Aunt who lives in Maine had a cat that used the commode too. Never saw it so do not know if it was a Maine coon cat or no. Wanted to buy one but they are pretty pricey.
