Sitting in a truck on a frozen lake surfing GLP

Just caught a fat 10" perch. Yum. gonna bread him w Krusteaz and butter fry him on the spot!

Sitting in one spot isn't fun. The allure of fishing is hitting all the different spots on the lake, or trolling the docks in the morning when the water is glass.

He can walk on the frozen lake all he wants, and even drive on it, no one is required to sit in one spot. Frozen lakes are too cool and make me homesick thinking about them. They run the fountains all year round here and no one has to take their boats out of the water.

You probably won't actually "catch" it... But if the ice is clear you could see the fish you hooked, swiming under the ice house but there is snow on that lake and op is in a truck... Shoulda went ice fishing today... North Dakota here... But its been sooo warm here.. Above zero for at least three days now... We finally have built up 18 in of ice ... Last year this time we were burying the auger w two extensions on it.... Boy oh boy ...

I agree - Ice fishing is a great way to get through the long winter months when it feels like there's "nothing to do".
My wife and I went last weekend and it was great just spending the day there - no distractions, no tv no radio, just her and myself and the fish which were cooperating.

On the contrary, when fishing is poor, a guy wishes he could find that one spot where they were hitting like starved Ethiopians in front of a 50 dollar a plate buffet. Roaming around looking for fish can get agonizing If you truly want to take home a fish.. I'd sit in one spot to catch the big one, and have a story to tell... Also.. Dunno if you've been ice fishing, but typically there is a lot of moving and drilling and searching for "the spot" much like water water fishing ... You can move on the ice and make new holes and you are not confined to one spot on the lake my friend... ESP. When your ice house has wheels and a motor....

That pancake mix is great for fish.
A few friends of mine and I are heading up to Lake Nippissing in N. Ontario in a few weeks for some ice fishing. We will be sleeping out on the lake in the huts - they have bunk beds, propane heater and stove. Last year we took 5 lbs of bacon with us and had fresh fish, bacon and beans - it was great. You can fish all night long right from your bunk bed.

yes it's legal. You just have to count it in your daily limit, which for me in Ontario is 25 perch per person per day.

I think, people think, they will fall through the ice and die., like in the movies... Not knowing the ice under their feet, if thick enough, is more structurally sound than the floor of my house.. Anyway.. Ice grave.. Burning alive... Drowning... All very real fears that would cause a person to fear standin on what they perceive to be an impermanent and unstable surface ... I know it's gonna be ice till late march at least. Doesn't scare me.. But it used to, being in the lake as cars drive by and the ice, perpetually creaking cracking and rapping... I can understand the source of ones fear...

25 ten inch perch would be a killing bro.!!! So you just keep the skin or something as proof and put it in your limit.. Seems reasonable to me.. Man I want to eat on the lake everytime.. But usually just an m.r.e. Sadly. Usually to busy to cook and fish.. I need to learn to relax.. Good luck bro. Sounds fun. Thanks for the affirmation that ice fishing is the shit, and also not accessible by everyone, and I should be greatfull to have a memory bank filled w such grand adventure that some poor city dwelling, concrete surrounded folks, ne'er experience... All of a sudden an aerobatics plane buzzed and circled us. He then landed by his friends right on the lake. I got the take off on video, but didn't have my camera on me when he landed. Probably won't see that again in my lifetime. Pretty cool!
