United States 02/02/2016 12:44 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Country music's tragic downfall It's sad, but you can't deny it. You look back at the anti-PC, rebellious ways of Johnny Cash and David Allen Coe with utter nostalgia. Patty Loveless and Alan Jackson helped maintain that traditional sound through the 1980s and 1990s. Now, look at the playlist of any given mainstream 'country' FM station. Pop rock, with a SLIGHT twangy element. Everything from "Break Up With Jew (erm, you)" to practically anything by Sam Hunt. Just goes to show how low as a society we've sunk. No rebellion, no message, no emotion (most of country music has always had raw emotion, even a little too much at times). Just 'cruise', 'babe', 'truck', no more and no less. What's scary is that mainstream modern country, as lame as it is, is still artistically superior to most Top 40 and MAINSTREAM rap on the radio. Now, to say an individual 'artist' like Sam Hunt ruined country music is like saying Martin Scorsese or Francis Ford Coppola improved the film industry on their own. Sam or Taylor aren't culpable for Nashville's decline by themselves, but rather a product of it. We must, as consumers, address our anger at the industry and sponsor local groups with soul, meaning and all. And not just for country radio, but pop, rock, whatever. Let's do it soon. |

You can pretty much write a cookie cutter hit song by using a pop melody and combining any/all of the following words: dirt road, four wheels, tan legs, Georgia, Bud Light, party, summer night, cornfield, skirt, boots, weekend, Jack Daniels. |
