I actually love it. But I almost always am logged out of my google account when I browse, and am very careful with what is and isn't synced. |

I'm never signed into anything for an extended period of time. I generally don't use cloud services and don't sync much of anything... although I'm trying to wean off syncing contacts through Google with my phone etc. It drives me nuts. I'm experimenting with VM's running Linux / Tails etc along with a solid VPN. |

Quoting: Copernica That's why you use a VPN OK. Explain how that keeps your ISP out of the loop? Don't they know you've connected to it? God Bless President TRUMP! GOD BLESS AMERICA!! |

It's a virtual private tunnel of encrypted data - they can't see squat. You have this encrypted data stream to the VPN provider which forwards you to your destination. The 'proxy' could be anywhere in the world. This is why people use them a lot for accessing websites that your ISP is blocking, or accessing services not available in your country. Good VPN providers don't log any data, etc. Search for info on it. There are some good high level explanations on how VPN's work. |

Don't you still need an ISP just to have the internet connection? (I'm really serious - I've never been able to understand VPN's for some reason) God Bless President TRUMP! GOD BLESS AMERICA!! |

You usually download the VPN client from the business you buy it from (It should support OpenVPN). You fire up the VPN client application. This client uses your ISP connection to create the tunnel to the VPN servers. Then *all* of your internet connection is 'tunneled' through the VPN, safe from prying eyes. I've been researching which VPN to go with... it's a tough choice! A friend of mine uses PIA (Private Internet Access) and is happy with it. I may go with something that's not in a 'fourteen eyes' country. If you are interested in online privacy I just created a new thread to list a few websites I found useful: Thread: Privacy Tools Resources |
