Flat Earth vs. the Globe ...

What I don’t understand is the name-calling, insults, and absolute anger when someone mentions flat earth. We all on this website because we enjoy considering alternative ideas, but for some reason the possibility that the earth may not be a globe makes people so defensive. There are people on this site who believe in aliens, reptilians, Nibiru, big foot, vampires, etc., and yet those topics don’t piss people off as much as flat earth.

I enjoy considering the possibilities of our world being completely different than I was taught. And the whole point of GLP is to ponder the alternative ideas. It really hurts no one if I want to explore the idea of the earth being flat, although most behave as though it is a personal insult.

I think the idea of the world being vastly different than what has been drummed into our heads is fascinating. And I like the idea because if the world is flat then we truly have to understand all we have been taught is lies, and if the world is flat then we are much more special than we ever imagined.

Flat earth gives hope in both the creator and the creation. Instead of being a non-essential speck in a huge Universe, we then become the most important thing ever, each life, each person, each decision, whereas if we, on earth, are simply no more than a drop of water in an unimaginably huge ocean, we’re not much of anything, no more important than a single leaf on a tree or blade of grass. But if earth is the center of the Universe then we are all Godly, and our purpose in life becomes so much more important.

I, for myself, don’t know if the earth is a globe spiraling through space at unfathomable speeds, or if the earth is flat and stable, created for this human experience. But given my druthers I’d like to think each one of us is special and that we all shine in God’s eye – that the homeless guy sleeping on the street is just as important as the president or whatever pop star is in the news.

I have never been in space, nor has anyone I’ve ever met, so truth is, none of us really know. Over the years I have come to the conclusion if most people believe a concept to be true, it probably isn’t, and look how “facts” change generation to generation. There are simple truths, like how babies are born, and that chickens lay eggs, but so many things declared truth in one season, change in the next. I keep my mind open, and love alternative ideas; at least those ideas keep the world (flat or a globe) interesting.
