Why are there so many white and suburban popular rappers now?

I don't really care for hip hop music but I remember in the 90s and early 00s there was really only Eminem that was popular and had a big following and even he was from poor/ghetto type of background. The other white rappers at that time were pretty unheard of and underground. Now there are a shit load of white rappers like G Eazy and Machine Gun Kelly and Yellawolf and many others who are from middle class and suburban backgrounds Even some of the more popular non-white rappers like Drake are from from pretty affluent backgrounds. Certainly not rags to riches tales. When did American hip hop crossover from being all about the ghetto to being suburban and much more white?
