HE WALKED BY NIGHT was also a masterpiece, the first of its kind, that spawned DRAGNET and other police-procedural series and films like it (CSI, anyone?).

Marvel's Jessica Jones. I know this isn't exactly what you're looking for but this program gives me hope for a resurgence. I know I would watch a series in this style without the fantastical elements.
