This is one of the reasons why you never, ever give the government additional power.

Give them an inch and they will take a mile. Allow them to implement something for the sake of 'safety' that is voluntary in the first place, and soon enough it will be mandatory and refusal will be criminal. It works that way every damn time. Fingerprints needed under certain emergency circumstances for certain goods only will expand to fingerprints needed by everyone under every circumstance for every good purchased.

Likewise, never propose eliminating or restricting another groups' freedoms even if you disagree with that other group or find them repugnant. I mean this to the extent of making current legal activities illegal. It's easy to go after the people in society the majority hates, and once the government has that foot in the door, that's all they need to eventually restrict YOUR freedoms.

Additionally, never be a proponent of freedom-restricting 'temporary security measures' to 'keep us safe'. Look at the PATRIOT Act, which was supposed to be temporary. We're going to be stuck with provisions of that bill until the day this country dies.

In addition to being with us forever, what about the warrantless wiretaps and other such constitution-violating powers federal, state, and local law enforcement were given to 'combat terrorism' in the PATRIOT Act and similar legislation? They said it would only be used on terrorists. But to look at the reality now, it's used almost exclusively for domestic crimes like targeting drug traffickers and citizens suspected of similar crimes. The PATRIOT Act has been used to circumvent due process in over 1600 non-terrorism related drug offenses, while it's only been utilized in 15 cases of actual suspected terrorism.

Any power you give to the government will be expanded. It will never be given up. And no matter who they claim that power will be used against, know it will eventually be used against everyone, including you.

Food stamps require fingerprints. Pharmacy requires signature and sometimes ID.
