"We see signs that countries in the Arab world are preparing to acquire nuclear weapons, that they are not willing to sit quietly with Iran on brink of a nuclear or atomic bomb," Ya'alon told fellow defense ministers on Sunday, the final day of the Munich Security Conference. Quoting: Tess. Ya’alon did not name specific countries who might be interested in developing nuclear weapons and gave no evidence to back up his claims. However, he then made a surprise statement that the Gulf states – officially hostile to Tel Aviv because of its occupation of the West Bank – had held clandestine meetings with Israel. But Mr Ya'alon said Iran was liable to break the agreement as their economic situation improves with the lifting of international sanctions. "If at a certain stage they feel confident, particularly economically, they are liable to make a break for the bomb. Even if the agreement for Iran to limit its nuclear enrichment holds, Mr Ya'alon said its 15-year expiry date was "just around the corner"... Mr Ya'alon made the claim after meeting the king of Jordan, one of only two Arab states with which Israel has diplomatic ties." [link to www.telegraph.co.uk] |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 41841245 United States 02/15/2016 10:35 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | No surprise. We've dictated who gets to possess nukes for decades. Of course other countries want them especially in the Middle East where we set Israel up with them to offset their being surrounded. Charles Krauthammer wrote the blowhardiest blowhard piece for Newsweek prior to the u.s. Invasion of Iraq in 2002 in which he asserted that "saddam isn't crazy to want nukes, that's why he must go." Mutually assured destruction. To secure peace is to prepare for war. All the cliches don't quite apply because of the complexities involved. But at a basic sense it should be no surprise countries are vying to gain an edge on each other. Dismantling all nukes would be great but since that won't happen, what's next? Preventative pre attacks? Scary stuff |
