Why do people think Fluoride in toothpaste is good for teeth?
Recently a Calgary study showed that kids are developing tooth decay because Calgary turned off the fluoridation in the public water. People are saying things like "Duh, thats obvious that would happen, its not toxic, it occurs naturally, it should be turned back on immediately."

After I read the comments I'm like wtfdid

Does anyone think it has benefits? If so can you explain it to me. Maybe I just don't get it because I drank to much fluoride?

I use fluoride toothpaste everyday and my teeth are about perfect..then again I also give them about 5 good swishes with water after brushing my teeth so that might help.

I use non fluoridated toothpaste and my teeth are about perfect also. Fluoride still gets absorbed through your gums and teeth no matter how many times you rinse. Do you know why you use fluoridated toothpaste?

I would be inclined no to use it just for the simple reason alone that fluoridated toothpastes have warning labels on them and fluoride-free toothpastes do not

Op might have been implying that the source for sodium fluoride may not be pure sodium fluoride, or arsenic needs to be used as a catalyst, or is a byproduct from an intermediary reaction that does not get removed entirely in the final powder (or whatever) form of the sodium fluoride product.

that or OP doesn't understand chemistry too good.

The hysterical terror of fluoride exhibited by conspiracy theorists is founded largely in the fact that it sounds sciencey. They're not terribly bright, so if was called something that sounded like a herb from Mayan or Sumer history ie "Gudfoya", they'd accept it without a second thought.

Fluoride in the water does nothing to help your teeth and it has nasty side effects. Using fluoride toothpaste is OK if you rinse.

If you want to see what dentists (who promote fluoride in the water) really think about it, drink that little cup of fluoride rinse they give you at your next visit. They will freak out because you aren't supposed to ingest it, yet it's OK to put in the water and consume in much higher quantities every day.
Luck is when preparation and opportunity meet.

Flouride is the industrial waste left over from the Aluminum industry. The corporations instead of having to pay for the removal of the waste told lies about it being good for us. I'm pretty sure the government at the time had other results and used it for nefarious purposes.

Re: Why do people think Fluoride in toothpaste is good for teeth?
Well, we know the conspiracy about the sugar industry and them pushing for fluoride to protect the teeth from sugar.

[link to www.washingtonpost.com (secure)]

So, there was probably at least one study that showed that it could protect your teeth at least a bit in the short-term. Otherwise, they probably wouldn't have pushed for it all, unless sugar is just taking the blame away from some other cause.

I'm certain that all they cared for was to mitigate the negative effects of sugar, and not at all about overall health or long-term teeth health. They could have simply advocated for a reduction in the consumption of sugar, but then that would be too loving, and it seems to be near impossible in this money-driven society at the moment.

It hemically bonds with such a thin layer its pointless. Over all it drains the body of calcium and magnesium

study published in the journal Langmuir uncovered that the fluorapatite layer formed on your teeth from fluoride is a mere six nanometers thick.10

To understand just how thin this is, you'd need 10,000 of these layers to get the width of a strand of your hair! Scientists now question whether this ultra-thin layer can actually protect your enamel and provide any discernible benefit, considering the fact that it is quickly eliminated by simple chewing. There could be variables. For example Diet change. Sugar destroys teeth. Vitamin D, Vitamin A, Calcium and magnesium can do the same. Fluoride on teeth doesn't stick around long after treatment. Its just too thin. If you put a think layer you can get sick. The pure form of sodium fluoride is so toxic that by just consuming a small volume of it could kill you.

fluoride is an anion of fluorine. fluorine is an element, arsenic, aluminum, cadmium are also elements. fluorosilicic acid is a chemical compound, which is a combination of more than 1 element. fluorosilicic acis is produced during industrial productions of other compounds.

Sodium Fluoride, which is the chemical compound used in water treatment, is often produced from Hexafluorosilicic acid (another name for fluorosilicic acid) or from hexafluoric acid (which is a compound that has immesurable uses as a precursor for other fluoride compounds).

I am not for fluoridation of the water supply, I chose to live in a part of town that does not have fluoridated water, as i am not convinced of its benefits. moreso, my teeth get plenty of fluoride through toothpaste, fluoride mouth wash, and the fluoride shit that tastes like death strawberries my dentist gives me during cleanings.

I'm glad you don't want it in the water. I don't either. I wont even put sodium fluoride in my mouth tho. I don't understand why anyone would brush with toothpaste diluted with rat poison? The consequences outweigh the benefits. I mean whats the point if its only a layer 6 nanometers thick and it comes off with simple chewing. Its to toxic and it absorbs through your tongue and gums. It could cause a variety of health issues. Why even risk it?

Increases lead absorption, Disrupts collagen synthesis, linked to lower IQ in children, Crippling skeletal fluorosis and bone fractures
Genetic damage and cell death Increased tumor and cancer growth Disrupts immune system Inhibits antibody production
Brain damage and lowered IQ Dementia Arthritis Severe eye problems, including blindness
Impaired thyroid function Bone cancer (osteosarcoma) Inactivates 62 enzymes Muscle disorders

Exactly, I don't think people really know the difference.
The natural version of fluoride is known as calcium fluoride which is naturally found in soil. It is not that harmful to us. The synthetic industrial version is called sodium fluoride. This industrial version is a synthetic toxic waste.

Sodium fluoride is what is used in toothpaste and public water.
