Alexander Litvinenko, the Russian ex-spy who said he was the victim of a poisoning, has died in hospital.
Mr Litvinenko, 43, died on Thursday evening and the cause of his condition is still being investigated, said University College Hospital, London.

Scotland Yard said officers were now investigating "an unexplained death".

"Initial reports from UCH at the weekend that he had been poisoned by heavy metal thallium, or some form of radioactive material, have now been dismissed by head of critical care Dr Geoff Bellingan."

There's always the possibility that the Dr was later instructed by (?) to withdraw his initial report.

Re: Russian ex-spy dies in hospital
when this story first broke last weekend, media were immediately blaming Putin and Russian Secret Services, if Putin wanted some one doing away with because they were about to spill a secret, i reckon they would have put a couple of bullets in his head or blown him into several hundred pieces with a massive car bomb rather pissing about with some dodgy poison that doesn't kill straight away and allows the victim to stay alive for a few more days (in admittedly screaming agony) to reveal what secrets he has.

Its a very odd story is this, no doubt he was the victim of a hit, but i would have thought the Russian Government would be a lot more professional than to allow someone to stay alive and tell the police or MI5 what they know.

Could he have been the message about the dirty bomb. A few days ago the news reported that the anti terrorist police were taking over the case. A day later that is when the cover up started.

he put the blame squarely at putin though his statement seems to ring with familiarity to other acts which are common topics on GLP.

Very convenient isn't it? 'NOW' is 'neither'. Yeah right.
The guy was poisoned.
This is the typical modus operandi of russian operatives.

It was said the guy had information regarding the killing of
journalist Anna Politkovskaya. [link to www.mosnews.com]

Sounds like a conference that'll be worth monitoring, . . . not so much for what is said, . . . as for what is NOT said.

I too had hoped the victim would recover. Quite sad.

Let's hope that TRUTH isn't the next victim.

What does seem to be an assassination has been so open though hasn't it? Either a message is being delivered, or someone is trying to smear the Russian Government maybe, (i.e. President Putin)
