It could be a hundred degrees outside and my grandfather would be toting his scalding hot coffee thermos. He would even "prime" it by first filling it with hot water, let it sit for a few minutes, and then refill it with his coffee. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23599489 Yea, that's how I roll I might have piping hot stew or soup in a wide mouth a tea and a coffee going for that ahh moment stuck in traffic 8 hours later. But I want a vacuum sealed refrigerator. |

Furthermore why aren't refrigerators vacuum sealed? Wouldn't this make them more efficient and allow less aerobic bacteria to migrate? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 56217776 Yes that's true for aerobic bacteria, but there is also anaerobic bacteria to consider... Food has to be sterile and then vacuum sealed and then they will last for a longer time... As of keeping foods hot or cold, any food will eventually reach ambient temperature. This is true no matter how insulated it is. The trick is changing the ambient temperature to match your preferred storage.... |

That's what I was trying to get at to ask everyone to weigh in on their opinion, should one be more concerned about the open air bacteria we're used to seeing develop in a chilled environment, or bacteria that could theoretically develop in a vacuum on food that had not been autoclaved with pasteurization temperatures? Thanks for tuning into my querry |

If it was a vacuum chamber, wouldn't the lack of air pressure cause all the containers of food to burst? Quoting: Vision Thing I don't believe so, I guess if you put Tupperware in you would want to create a cap that can be left cracked and self seal once all the air had been removed so not so it wouldn't explode, but so that you had the benefits of vacuum |

Thanks for tuning into my querry Both aerobic and anaerobic bacteria is bad and can cause illness and at the very least, spoil your food.... Hopefully, everyone should know that spoiled milk is really not bad. It just has to be re-pasteurized and it would be safe to drink.... |

Technically you'd want a thermos container the size of a refrigerator, with a door instead of a lid. You would still need to run a cooling system, but it should in theory be easier to keep cool for longer. Not counting how often people open the door. |

Sure, it'll work great until you open the door to grab the baloney. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27812725 you'd need a high capacity vacuum pump and really good seals, and the racket would be a bit much. I kind of see what you're saying. [link to youtu.be (secure)] But permit me the counterargument that sealed masons don't make any noise. No chatter. There needs be a way to tie the energy of the cooling process to the production of a vacuum such that most of the cooling is done immediately after the door is open and shut. |

I have some half and half that was spoiled upon opening it, there's no way I'm going to drink it. But I could see doing so with milk that was fresh and kept too long. What is the organism associated with spoiled milk? Is anaerobic spoilage recognizable in the same way as what we're used to seeing I've always heard canned food that's gone bad is disgusting, but sort of always heard it was from seal failure as opposed to incomplete sterilization. I've spawned a lot of mycelium in jars but usually the seal after the pasteurization process is not airtight and the contamination vectors are different. |

Well if you make the whole refrigerator a vacuum chamber, it would be a great way to de-hydrate all your foods, no container needed. Ta-da, here you go, freeze-dried food! Quoting: Moonchild I do want to figure out how to turn a chest freezer into a freeze drier for berries and such. Would be very interesting project, I remember last time I looked into it I got the feeling it would be too complicated, now I have my doubts |

It's an interesting idea. Just don't talk about it or make a working prototype, or you might be tragically shot in a totally unrelated mass shooting event, like the Buffalo NY inventor of the water powered car engine. |
