Could one create a super insulated vacumm chamber to keep foods hot and cold instead of a refrigerator?

Technically you'd want a thermos container the size of a refrigerator, with a door instead of a lid. You would still need to run a cooling system, but it should in theory be easier to keep cool for longer. Not counting how often people open the door.
