Rubatosis20 User ID: 71555571 ![]() 02/28/2016 11:19 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | UHM..carbon monoxide is NOT combustible. its what'sleft over after combustion. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 70617131 Incorrect.. Combustion is defined as highly exothermic oxidation. CO (carbon monoxide) oxidizes/combusts to CO2 (carbon di-oxide). It can pick up another O molecule. Hence, CO is what's left over after incomplete combustion. Basic chemistry. It's what you get from a choked or wet flame, or a car engine. Check wikipedia- CO is EU-classified as "Highly Flammable" as well as "Very Toxic" Well whatever it was... It ain't good. Rubatosis 2.0 - New account rubatosis n. the unsettling awareness of your own heartbeat, whose tenuous muscular throbbing feels less like a metronome than a nervous ditty your heart is tapping to itself, the kind that people compulsively hum or sing while walking in complete darkness, as if to casually remind the outside world, I’m here, I’m here, I’m here. |

More than likely this is not on anyone's radar. Someone should let the CIA know that a major CO eruption is occurring on the west coast so they can alert Obama and government. Time to get some cash out before it blows. |

Are increasing CO emissions a portent of accelerated volcanic activity or possibly earthquake? Does it correlate with seismic activity? Expanding earth? There is a corresponding CO increase on the ring of fire across the Pacific at about the same latitude. Make one wonder... Quoting: Hmmm... 679850 I'd love to see a volcano take out Hollywood. Anonymous Coward User ID: 61629439 ![]() 02/28/2016 11:58 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Maybe "explosion" is the wrong wrong. CO is toxic and inhibits the uptake of oxygen; would not CO have a very noticeable effect on humans at concentrations well below what could be ignited, e.g., explosive... More likely, I think, is natural gas / methane burning somewhere and producing CO as a byproduct, which is dispersing into the air. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 71526427 ![]() 02/28/2016 11:58 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | [link to www.takepart.com] Anyone else find it strange that this happened almost immediately after they plugged the porter ranch methane leak? From the article: "The capping of the well doesn’t mean Southern California’s methane problem is solved. Researchers at the University of California, Irvine, found 213 natural gas hot spots in the Los Angeles basin after driving through the region in a van equipped with instruments that measured methane, ethane, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide. In a study released this week, the scientists reported that they detected heightened methane emissions at power plants, water treatment facilities, and a truck refueling operation by the Port of Long Beach." "Carbon monoxide" being a pretty key thing here. |
