They use thermal to primarily identify grow operations.
Handguns are a skill; shotguns an art; rifles a science.

Re: Thermal Imagers on Patrol...on the streets
hey Omega
that and more...can show grow lights and generalized heat...when does the "right to privacy" get stompped on by something like this?

believe this was already used in a drug case and jeopardized it totally as they went by this to gain a search warrant...no probable cause...they just went house to house and stumbled across something.

several sides to everything.

Ever think that the officers do this to see if a guy is carrying a weapon ?

Unless a guy keeps his weapon in his crotch for an hour , it will likely show up as an unusual cold spot, especially in winter where someone is more likely to wear big clothing

Re: Thermal Imagers on Patrol...on the streets
They are great for fire fighters because the long wave thermal imagers can see through smoke to easily find trapped people or where the active flames are.

For patroling officers at night they can see individuals attempting to hide in the darkness or during the day for some one hiding camoflaged behind brush...... and yes they can be used to detect abnormal sources of heat, ie; grow lights.

I used to design thermal cameras years ago...... I miss it. But all good things must come to an end.
