I can just imagine back in the days, when our early brothers and sisters sat down for fellowship and one of them brought this topic up. I'm sure it evolved into a long debate just like here on glp.

Off topic Salt but you need to check out this video about the 144,000. Could they be those dead bones that come to life? They sing a special song and they follow Christ. Maybe they are all the two year old boys Herod had murdered in the coasts of Israel.

well, the problem is is that there is not clear definition of who or what the two witnesses will be.

in my experience, all prophetic components usually work on two or tree levels. so, you will see an actual ocurrence in the earth, and also something cosmic (like planetary or constellation or comet, et al), and something in heaven. for me, this is the marker of the divine nature of the word and the prophetic event.

so, the two witnesses...
are they two human men who come to declare the return of Christ?
are they two cosmic astronomical events or objects?
are they angels?

yes, and probably all three.

and, to add to the level of difficulty...
there will be a counterfeit of the entire thing
satan will use the event of the two witnesses to cause deception.
i think we will see this with the jews (who have been known to attempt to force the end) providing two men to be the so-called witnesses, but these men will really be under satan's power.
that is a prophetic marker in itself.

Elijah and Enoch are the two witnesses.. They aren't the old and New Testament, they aren't King Herod's babies that he murdered.. They are two people who are now angels that come and witness.. The two represent the 144,000 commissioned to be the elect, the Bride during the tribulation. Two divisions of Israel make up the two almond sticks that will be joined, they are the Northern tribes and the southern. Every single one of the 144,000 are enabled to do great things, they have the sealing (holy spirit, sonship) but first they have to got through a short trial period called the time of Jacob's trouble. 2/3 of the Jews die because like in the wilderness of the past, they die from UN beleif having seen their King and Redeemer when he comes and gets the Body of Christ and not accepting them not having a contrite and repentant heart.

Nobody in the world has holy spirit the moment of the rapture, the Jews don't, the nations/ Gentiles do not. the only ones who are protected are the remnant Jews. There will be 72 x 2,000 sets of two. Jesus sent out the seventy, he commissioned them. Do you think he went on vacation when he did that? He and his witnessing partner made a total of 72. Much of the gospels is not addressed to Gentiles, in fact NONE of it is Romans 15:4, it is addressed to the Jews. Since they rejected their King there is still stuff to do, when they get it together, when The time of Jacob's trouble begins. It will not be long for them, the days are cut short,... The 144,000 are not subject to the tribulation like everyone else, they are sealed.
