Ehm...Axl Rose to Front AC/DC?
[link to observer.com]

Is AC/DC’s still-unconfirmed hookup with Axl Rose messing with your head? I’m feeling pretty good about it, though some of the math confuses me.

Let’s assume it’s actually going to happen.

Axl Rose will do an excellent job fronting the band; he is a gifted and almost historically charismatic vocalist whose skills have not significantly dimmed with time. Now, in purely musical terms he might not be the ideal singer for AC/DC and their grinding, stuttering, riffing, rasping and grimacing material. Both Brian Johnson and Bon Scott had a chesty bottom to their strangulated yelp that Axl lacks, and when/if you hear those AC/DC classics without that distinctive mixture of cat-yowl and dog-woof that both Johnson and Scott excelled in, you’ll hear how odd it sounds (which is not a criticism of Axl—he has a pure and bold high-end, somewhere between a tenor sax and an air-raid siren, that any singer would envy).

I'm hoping they get Angry Anderson on the job. Better suited imo.

Agreed. This will either be a massive fail or a huge success and nothing between. And judging by what I've heard from Axl post-GNR... fail incoming.

I'd have to hear it. It could actually be great. Not knocking Johnson, love that guy. Much of those great performances on Back in Black were at the absolute top of his range 36 years ago. And he's done and admirable job singing them all these years as he's aged. But axl, with that crazy six-octave range, might sound great because he won't be working as hard. Wanna hear him lean into Shoot to Thrill, before I decide.

Re: Ehm...Axl Rose to Front AC/DC?
Here's my take on it:

ACDC is finished without Brian Johnson and all of the other members they have recently lost.

That said, if Angus wants to fulfill some contractual obligations with a guest singer, than I don't care who it is...I do not need a Bon/Brian clone in there.

Axl would be an interesting choice. You gotta go big or stay home, as they say.

Who else is big enough?

Sebastian Bach?
Vince Neil?
Joe Elliot?

None of those seem right.

It's definitely got potential, but Axl had better have cleaned them pipes. Have you listened to him post GnR? Really bad stuff mostly.

If this were GnR prime days, I'd say yup, good fit and likely HUGE, but now I'm not so sure. Guess we'll see...

Agree. Gotta be a 'grit' voice. The guy from Cinderella maybe...

Of course you could call that guy a discount Axl so...

Agreed, he still has the range, but has sounded thin and off key at times. But the sound has sucked on every recent clip I've heard. Hard to judge. Agree with Candle. Go big. Sucks that Angus is the only one left.

Jesse James Dupree would be a good pick. He has a voice similar to Bon's.

Definitely a 'grand experiment' ala Van Hagar.

Might be jumping the shark or it might be a hair-band geekgasm. Hoping warily for the best. ;)

Re: Ehm...Axl Rose to Front AC/DC?
I don't want to see Axl front AC/DC, his ego is way too big. AC/DC is a working man's band, they'd fire him after a few late shows.

AC/DC have had a great innings, but i think they should retire rather than sink into abysmal shows.

Yeah it truly is/was a fragile concoction. Even without drummer Phil Rudd, they sounded less like themselves. And the crazy bald guy who replaced him was great.
