...there are over 20,000 satellites above the earth. Why have we heard of not even one of these satellites being hit by a meteorite?

Who's to say it hasn't happened? I wouldn't even expect something like that to make the news.

But if it hasn't happened yet it wouldn't surprise me. Even with thousands of man-made objects in orbit, the distances are pretty vast. Throw a marble into the air then try to hit it with a grain of sand. Not very easy is it?
