The seismic activity then moved northeast to reach areas in Oita Prefecture about 100 kilometers away from the focus of the magnitude-7.3 quake. Experts are concerned that quake activities could spread to a major active fault that lies further ahead in that direction. According to a calculation by Masashi Omata of the Japanese Society for Active Fault Studies, the ground here moved about 20 centimeters vertically, and about two meters horizontally. This measurement was taken in a northeastern section of the Futagawa fault zone, which extends for at least about 64 kilometers. [link to newsonjapan.com] |

Aso link unlikely "Experts rejected the possibility that active volcanoes in the Kyushu region have been affected by the recent earthquakes, though there was a small-scale eruption on Mt. Aso in Kumamoto Prefecture at about 8:30 a.m. on Saturday." [link to newsonjapan.com] Contrary to the conclusions drawn in the OP, "experts" are saying not to worry, even though the evidence shows the quakes are centered on Aso. I smell another Fukushima-esque coverup. The Japanese have quite the habit of downplaying events. |

Aoki indicated the quake had a "strike-slip" mechanism in which the fault running through the ground shifted horizontally. This is the same type of quake as the magnitude-7.3 Great Hanshin Earthquake in 1995, in which more than 6,400 people died or remain missing. It is different from the magnitude-9.0 Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011, a massive trench-type quake that occurred where an ocean plate presses against a continental plate." The 1:25 a.m. earthquake, with the same intensity as the 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake, was about 16 times as large as a magnitude 6.5 temblor that hit Kumamoto Prefecture Thursday night, the Japan Meteorological Agency said, describing the latest jolt as the main quake and the initial one as a foreshock. The governmental Earthquake Research Committee concluded Friday that the magnitude 6.5 quake happened on the 81-kilometer-long Hinagu fault zone running along the central part of the island of Kyushu. Shinji Toda, professor of earthquake geology at Tohoku University, said the 64-kilometer-long Futagawa fault zone located north of the Hinagu zone could have moved to cause the fresh quake." [link to newsonjapan.com] It is saying the ground rose by 1 Meter right at the base of the Aso volcano. It shows on the map on the page it moved at the base. This could indicate a lot of rising magma. Just like in yellowstone we see the ground swelling |

The geography of Kyushu was permanently changed by this. Crazy stuff. I've not seen anything yet. |

An analysis of the epicenters of the earthquakes that started on April 14 showed an initial movement northeast from central Kumamoto Prefecture to Oita Prefecture. Now, the seismologists say, an increase in seismic activity has been detected southwest. We have seen small earthquakes hitting sporadically (in the southwestern part of Kumamoto Prefecture), an official with the Meteorological Agency said at a news conference on April 17. It is hard to predict what will happen in the future, but we urge the public to remain alert. The official said the number of tremors has risen in and around Yatsushiro, Kumamoto Prefecture, since the largest one so far, a magnitude-7.3 temblor, struck at 1:25 a.m. on April 16 with its epicenter near the prefectural capital of Kumamoto." [link to www.asahi.com] So the quake has triggered movement northeast, per the OP, and also southwest... |

Very troubling, especially given that that "expert" I posted above said there's no change in Aso after the quake. What a liar. |
