My dad died today

I'm so, so sorry for your loss Op. I know there are no words to comfort you....your dad was your dad....and I'm sure he was a wonderful man who will be missed. Many of us know where you are and understand. My prayers to keep you going during this time. Take all the time you need to grieve. Hugs

He might be in Purgatory, in which case the BEST thing you can do for him is pray for him. Specifically, pray the prayer associated with St. Gertrude for suffering souls in Purgatory:

"Eternal Father, I offer you the most precious blood of your divine Son Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today...For all the Holy Souls in Purgatory. For sinners everywhere. Sinners in the Universal Church, those in my own home and within my family, and especially for <<Your Dad's name here.>"

Pray this prayer EVERYDAY for him. He'll be most grateful!

I was there when she passed.

It was a life altering event.

Doesn't get easier, but it becomes less raw over time.

I am so sorry, OP ! I lost my Dad 27 years ago, this month. Remember all the good times you had with him.

Sorry to hear that OP! I lost both my parents when I was really young and to this day, I think about them. There's nothing anyone will say that will make you feel better. It's a pain that has to be grieved, and it's something you never ever forget. Of course, it will hurt less and less everyday, but it is one of those things that stays with you forever. It is a bond like no other, an indescribable bond.

I'm sorry to hear that, my thoughts and prayers go out to you.

We all deal with things differently, there is no one size fits all. What is "crude, sickening, drum-beating, primal ritual, performed by a sleazy..." is one that doesn't respect a person grieving for their father. No one gets taller by kicking someone while they are down. Not to diminish your opinion, but there is place and time for everything and right now is NOT THE TIME.

May he rest in peace. Sorry for your loss. But as you stated, he is in a better place. You will see him again!

Billions of others have gone through this throughout human history. I have as well. Unfortunately, it's just part of life.

Sorry for your loss, but you really do need "to feel like shit" for a while. The grieving process is important and part of healing. Time really does heal and don't be afraid to cry. Crying, letting it all out, is super important. Best wishes, OP.

lost my dad to a sudden massive heart attack right in front of my brother and I when when we were 12 & 13, know what your going through..

But the Lord is good and works everything for the Good of those who love him and are called according to his purpose. Seek him while he may be found! In time he will bring healing and wholeness.

My condolences OP. When my mom died a couple yrs back the people here helped me feel a little better.....hope it helps you.
Ye he is in a better place and we all will hopefully get there too. Personally I can't wait to shed this meatbag and see what's on the other side.

Even though we may know a person has gone to the better place than here , even Jesus wept. Sorry for your loss it is a pain unlike any other. I pray time will heal this wound. It helps to cry, yell in a pillow and get mad.

I'm sorry you've lost your Dad, SOS.

Please don't feel like you have to be "happy" for him. You need to grieve, and that's perfectly normal and necessary.

Feel free to feel sad right now. Take your time. You'll always miss your Dad, but after awhile you'll be able to look back and smile at all the fond memories you have of him.
