IED Found On Bridge in Texas!!

Someone I didn't know, in Texas, made a dry ice device with a 3 liter bottle once... He was with a bunch of friends about twenty years ago. They had made a whole trunk load of 20oz and 2 liter bottle dry ice devices, so they only needed to add a little water and screw a lid on for action. He must have had a fun afternoon. Saving the 3 liter bottle for last, they decided to do it on an "abandoned" road and watch it.

He said it swelled up so large it looked like a cartoon. The bottle got to be over three feet tall and just kept going over about 10 minutes. There must have been an insane amount of pressure because even he was afraid to get anywhere even kind of close to it. Then, a car started coming towards them out of nowhere. He said the last thing he saw out the rear windshield, as they sped away, was a man getting out of that car to inspect the enormous soda bottle in the middle of the road. He hopes the man did not poke at it...

When I was a teenager we used to make plastic explosives and nitro glycerin and go over to the local elementary school and set it off in the trashcans. It was harmless fun but there's no way kids could get away with that stuff today. We learned chemistry by trying to make different stuff. Granted nitro was a bit stupid to make at home but we were experimenting.

[UPDATE] - More detail....

ROSEBUD -- An improvised explosive device (IED) was found and disabled Tuesday night under a bridge near Rosebud.

According to Falls County Constable Richard Aleman, 2 juvenile boys were hunting for rabbits late Tuesday evening when they saw suspicious items under a bridge near Farm to Market 1963. 1 of the boys contacted his father, who is former military, and his father contacted the fire department.

The fire department arrived and determined that the packages were possibly IEDs. The McLennan County Bomb Squad was called in and arrived at the scene at approximately 10:00 p.m. An agent from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives arrived at approximately 11:30 p.m.

The MCSO bomb squad was able to x-ray three "suspicious devices" which included a plastic bottle wrapped in duct tape, a fuse-type detonator device, and a cooler. X-rays revealed there were shotgun shells and an unidentified liquid inside the bottle.

Whole highway shutdown.

Most likely kids. I experimented with things that went bang when I was a kid. The placement doesn’t seem to be anywhere meant to cause max damage or casualties.
