You can believe in both. They're not mutually exclusive.
I believe God created the Earth, then stepped back and let it evolve on its own.

Why would specifics be important? Because you can’t develop a rock solid stable divine consciousness, free from sorrow and the need to give others sorrow, if your understanding is built on some airy-fairy idea that somehow I came into existence, but I really haven’t a clue as to how that happened. And you will not be able to speak with any authority when approached by somebody seeking spiritual help.
