Victory Day Military Parade in Moscow

The Victory Day parade on May 9 will feature around 5,000 soldiers and 200 units of military hardware and 71 aircraft, including the multiple rocket launcher system Polonaise, the Lis combat vehicle, the Uragan and Tor-M2 missile systems, SP guns, howitzers, as well as Russian tanks, armored vehicles and self-propelled artillery.

As a landmark jubilee parade honouring Victory Day’s 71th anniversary, 2016’s ceremonies are expected to include Sukhoi Su-35 jets that took part in Russia’s military operation in Syria. This year female soldiers will take part in the march for the first time. A detailed schedule with locations and timings will soon be released.

You know I really do not have anything against Russia, before we became a country their people helped us fight the revolutionary war, that said, I will never get used to stiff legged march it not pretty, solder of tin, can not help it. I think of those tin solder toys.

Well, it's obviously is a show, a relict of old Prussian army of 18th century.
But just look at it as a big memorial service for 27 million of Soviet people (of which only 1/3 were soldiers) that perished in WW2.

But even so it has its utilitarian purposes. At the very least, every regiment in the Parade is lead by the commander of corresponding war academy or army subdivision. Which means that people bearing such position must be capable of marching. It prevents army command from becoming a bunch of old fat men.
Hell, last year the leading Tu-160 White Swan of the aerial section of Parade was piloted by the Air Forces High Commander...

The Immortal Regiment march campaign is due to be held in Moscow on May 9, to mark the 71th anniversary of the Soviet victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.
Campaign activists will march with a portrait of a relative or an unknown veteran of the war. The Moscow Victory Day Parade is part of the commemoration services for the defeat of Nazi Germany in 1945, featuring a series of parades that will occur in over 20 major Russian cities.

I watched the whole parade and following ceremonies this year as I do it every year.

The marching bands and orchestras were wonderful, the same with the thousands of soldiers and soldier-esses and commanders of all kinds.

I loved the aerial display.

Thank you Russia once again for remembering the victory and all those who died in World War 2.

The only problem was Netanyahu being there.

There was another tall, good looking guest of honor with President Putin and Zio-man. I have no idea who he is. I would be interested to know. He looked Asian.

As for Netanyahu, he was there for a several reasons. One of them is talks on Syria going behind the scenes. Another - the fact that starting from this year Victory Day is also a national holiday of Israel. Twice, actually, because it's now also a Jewish religious holiday "Day of Salvation and Deliverance" celebrated on Iyar 26 by Jewish calendar (May 11 this year).

Well, consolidation of the nation and rapid industrialization of 1930s under Stalin's iron fist were crucial for the victory. It was horrible time in many aspects - but also necessary.
Also, Stalin fulfilled all the promises given to the Allies - including Kwantung assault. Can't say the same about his counterparts.

What a nice looking man! He looked happy to be there as a guest of honour.

Also you are right about the Syria talks. Still, I don't like Netanyahu and his politics. Not at all. I hope President Putin will round him up behind closed doors.

I know about all the planes and helicopters, I have many contacts in different parts of Russia. I will go to the Moscow Air Show next year, the business show. I will take time to look at everything. Maybe I will run into the President on opening day, maybe on the second day.
