Connecticut woman says she was harassed in Walmart bathroom after customer mistook her as transgender


After posting a Facebook video about the incident, Aimee Toms said she’s been threatened by internet trolls and called a “lesbian” and “whore.”

“People have irrational fears, I'd like for them to know this simply isn't something to be so angry about,” Toms, 22, told the Daily News.

Toms said in her video she was using the bathroom at a Danbury Walmart Friday when a woman suddenly approached her from behind and yelled, “You are not supposed to be here! You need to leave!” The woman then flipped off Toms, told her she’s “disgusting” and stormed out, Toms said.

Toms said she believes her short hair, and the baseball cap she wore that day, made the woman mistake her for a transgender woman using the women’s bathroom — which, in Connecticut, is perfectly legal.

“I can get why at first glance she would mistake me for somebody who’s transgender,” Toms said in her Facebook video, which has been viewed nearly 20,000 times she posted it Friday.

Yeah I saw this story circulating on twitter.
This whole bathroom war thing is getting out of hand. People are starting to second guess peoples gender as they walk into the bathroom.

Made up. Just another feel sorry for homosexuals story, with zero proof, and no chance of ever proving it. Unless they care enough to pull up cameras proving she was there alone. Or not even there. Then her lie will stand.

I was thinking that. This particular woman didn't seem to think the whole tranny thing was such a big deal (she's 22 yrs old)... I don't understand how the younger women don't seem to even mind such invasion of privacy. if not for themselves but others they know.

Could be a lie. I can certainly imagine it happening though. Many older women wear short hair and by that time in life, grow facial hair. Whether she was a plant or not, it's going to happen.

The woman who accused the young woman of being a man was very hostile (as I would be if I encountered an actual man). I can see mistaken identity happening more frequently than anything else. Women becoming violent in bathrooms. I'm sure even voicing an opinion about it at that stage might be considered hate crime?
