Electrical Discharge Mystery
I'm starting to feel like fricken Jubilee from X-Men!

It started last year when I first got to California. Mostly it was whenever I touched a car - didn't matter if I touched the metal or the window - zap!

I initially attributed it to the drier air here.

However, it has gradually gotten worse. Now, I know about static electricity in winter but this is beyond, beyond! And, I don't even have carpet nor has there been any static cling to my clothes.

Lately EVERYTHING I touch I have not only been getting zapped but little blue 'lightening' bolts have been shooting out of my fingers when still a couple of inches away.

I've totally given up on operating the TV or DVD player. Anything electrical gives me far more of jolt than simply touching the wall or glass etc.

My daughter is totally unaffected and for some reason, my computer has yet to zap me.

Any ideas?????

WTF is it???? I've lived in drier climates than this and have never experianced anything like this.

The past two days have been really bad. Not as extreme as that picture of the Pope but on a smaller scale - I literally see bolts like that coming out of my finger tips.

Hey - I wonder if I could learn to control this and if it could be useful..... spock

What kind of info?

It's not just metal or things connected to electricity - like appliances or light switches.

Glass, paper, wood, rubber - you name it - everything shocks me and not just little snap discharges.

In the past, once you touch something and get zapped, the discharge is gone but for me now, I can get zapped 2 or 3 times in a row touching the same item.

That used to happen to me all the time. Now that you have brought it up, I realize that it hasn't happened to me in a long time.

I'm just curious. Are you under stress? Has anything changed in your life recently? What changed when it first started happening?

My daughter was seriously injured in an accident and we relocated to California.

You could say that's stress related!!!!

Re: Electrical Discharge Mystery
My experience is that people may pick up an electrostatic charge when they are moving around and if the conditions are right, like if it is extremely dry or if they are wearing something that charges up easily from their bodily movements.
Could it be some common item of clothing that you are now wearing these days that you did not wear before that picks up a charge from your bodily movements? Like maybe a coat, or dress or pants or something? A coat might build up a charge just from the movement of your arms as the material rubs against itself... If it was the coat you could probably get some anti-static spray to use on it.

Do you pick up a charge when you are nude (but not walking around in bare feet)?
If not, then maybe that narrows the cause down.

I Googled "anti static spray" and found this, but I haven't actually tried it myself as I don't need it right now..

Anti-Static Spray recipe

1/4 cup commercial liquid fabric softener
1/4 cup ammonia
2 cups water

Mix ingredients and store in a spray bottle. Spray liberally on the rug, your shoes, chair, desktop, or file cabinet, but do not spray directly onto your computer system

Re: Electrical Discharge Mystery
Star Gazer, there's one simple solution to this problem, although I can't get you an explanation for it:

Wear some shoes or boots with thick, non-conductive rubber soles. These can be found in any work clothes store or simply ask to a shoe store for these kinds of things.

Electrical workers wear these to carry high-voltage cables without being electrocuted to death, so you try that and still have these weird issues, then it's far beyond me, and the Laws of Physics for that matter...

Re: Electrical Discharge Mystery
By the way, electricity is transmitted through contact with the ground, or through activation of electrical particles in the air.

So if you cut any link you have with the ground, either with a good rubber sole, or... well, by being suspended in mid-air, it would not make sense that you,d have these statics problems.

Everything is energy, matter is concentrated energy, we're energy.

You are positive energy , vibrating in a higher dimension ready to shift from 3D to a higher one therefore your energy centres or chakras are fully activated.

Re: Electrical Discharge Mystery
No carpet in the house.

I have cloth car seats.

ALL cars shock me - usually upon exiting and closing the door - ie. when I'm standing outside of it.

When I do wear shoes in the house, they have rubber soles - otherwise I'm barefoot or have leather soled slippers.

Happens more after I've been sitting down for awhile.

Since it's winter and our house furnace is broken, I'm not inclined to run around the house naked so, I can't answer on that one.

Thanks for the thoughts and ideas.

The woo-woo in me leans more towards the built up stress theory and/or higher vibration/dimensional shift theory.

A simple trick my father taught me on long drives in the car. Simply tie a wire from your frame, long enough to touch the ground. As it makes contact with the ground it will discharge the shock. Works every time.

Re: Electrical Discharge Mystery
The potential energy between you and these objects exists due to a buildup of electrons(or lack there of) in either you or the objects in question. You see the end result, but you have not gone through any sort of reasonable scientific testing which would automagically dismiss YOU as being anything special. I suppose it would be a bit difficult to keep track of climate, environment and the changes in those which would result in these electrostatic discharges. But if you really though it was something special, you'd take the time to make note of variables which could and do lead to a buildup in electrostatic potentials.

there is not any magic going on here, you just are not taking notice of what the causal factors are.

If you are the one producing the static charge, hold a doorkey , preferably made of brass, against something metal like a radiator. Works for me. :)
